Not a Monster
forgottenraptor:
Claw stared at the creature. It’s voice was harsher, deeper, but he understood the returned greeting. Whether the creature actually understood what it was saying was a different story. And now it looked immensely happy, like communicating meant something good to it. It was… well, he wasn’t sure of the word, but he was happy he’d made the other happy. His lips curved in a return smile.
He had to learn how to communicate with this creature. This… sorta raptor. He settled back in the sand, wrapping his tail around his body. “Claw.” He told it… him?… making a gesture at himself to try and indicate that was what he was called. Then he looked at the raptor creature. “Name?”
“….I think my name is Indoraptor?” The male replied, deeply amused that it could communicate with someone. “That’s what everyone called me in the lab.” He looked all over Claw’s features, noticing how some things were the same as him and some were not.
“I was made by humans….a killing machine…you?”
He had to admit to some surprise. He hadn’t thought this creature understood the raptor language real well. Had he really learned it just by hearing a couple words? “Indoraptor?” Claw repeated. Something in him calmed. He’d been right, the creature was a type of raptor. He had no idea what a lab was, another human thing he assumed. “My parents were born by humans. They got free, and my siblings and I were born by the volcano. But they and the island are gone now...”
He trailed off for a moment, then shook his head. “Indoraptor would be what you are, I think. Like, I’m a Velociraptor but my name is Claw. It’s a way to identify you from others.” All raptors killed, so he didn’t think much about what Indoraptor said.
