you guys do realize memorizing a story doesn't actually preserve it right? it just destroys it entirely and places a perfect copy of it in your brain to be retold at a future performance
i bet the pain will end if i arrange a perfect enough sentence about it
Youre a mollusk and something potentially bad or scary gets inside you what do you do. Make a pearl around it. Okay. okay
clarice lispector
very into films from a child’s perspective about the weirdness, imagination and perversity of childhood at the moment
my recommendations:
The Reflecting Skin, 1990, dir. Philip Ridley
Poison for the Fairies, 1986, dir. Carlos Enrique Taboada
Celia, 1989, dir. Ann Turner
Angela, 1995, dir. Rebecca Miller
Tideland, 2005, dir. Terry Gilliam
Ponette, 1996, dir. Jacques Doillon
The Spirit of the Beehive, 1973, dir. Victor Erice
Heavenly Creatures, 1994, dir. Peter Jackson
Ratcatcher, 1999, dir. Lynne Ramsay
Cría cuervos, 1976, dir. Carlos Saura
Don’t Deliver Us from Evil, 1971, dir. Joël Séria
Oh, Moon!, 1988, dir. Reha Erdem
The Innocents, 2021, dir. Eskil Vogt
The Other, 1972, dir. Robert Mulligan
This is one of my favorite kinds of movies, and these are great recs. I would add a few:
Fanny and Alexander, 1982, dir. Ingmar Bergman
Parents, 1989, dir. Bob Balaban
The Curse of the Cat People, 1944, dir. Robert Wise & Gunther von Fritsch
I Start Counting, 1970, dir. David Greene
Laurin, 1989, dir. Robert Sigl
Lemora, 1973, dir. Richard Blackburn
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, 1970, dir. Jaromil Jireš
I Start Counting, Laurin, Lemora and Valerie are more coming of age stories, but I think they still fit.
And perhaps it's considerably different from the others, but I'd also recommend The World Is Full of Secrets, 2018, dir. Graham Swon.
getting an evil spirit put inside you without your knowledge or consent is basically a classic childhood experience
please pray for me if you are the type to do so. have been having a lot of health issues recently & haven’t felt comfortable or safe in my own body in a long time. i’ll be getting bloodwork done tomorrow in hopes we figure something out ♡ pray that it goes well & that i get some answers, maybe
once again severely vitamin d deficient surprising no one But … Hello hypothyroidism? there will obviously be follow-up testing but that’s what things are pointing to. please continue to pray for me if you can
once again had the really good experience of having a medical professional start to acknowledge when something is abnormal in my blood tests but then go on to say But not abnormal enough so we’ll just check again in six months!
so i get to suffer more w/o proper explanation for anything Yay
recent self-centered image curation
mp3 player completely stopped working because the sd card it came with sucks. cried about it for several hours because im incapable of emotional regulation. got my period. up at 5am
emailed company that makes the mp3 player to see if maybe they'll send me a new one but honestly that might not be the best idea because the new one will still have that shitty sd card. i should replace it but im not a very handy or tech savvy person and im nervous about damaging the hardware but. i must try
i FIXED it … perhaps a temporary fix though because i did everything i could to avoid taking it apart. so. tentative yay
