Suetsugu’s art for Taichi’s birthday this year! 💙
true love for The Character shows itself when you imagine them suicidal with grief
Just came across your post about the fandom hating arata and im so confused rn cus i don’t interact with the fandom that much if at all but i so vividly remember first searching it up online after my first watch (which was years ago) and everyone hated taichi’s fuckin ass!!! I felt like a madman seeing the way people talked about him as if he’d personally murdered their own families meanwhile he’s my fav character. Now it’s arata? Huh?? Is it the ending of the manga that shifted opinions this drastically or have i hallucinated the whole taichi hate train thing? Also whyyyy is the fandom soooo fixated on the romance anyway as if its the only thing the story offers? this is something that’s bothered me since forever and the reason I don’t interact with the fandom at all, you have all these interesting characters and their interesting dynamics and all you can think about is who should end up with who romantically? Boooo you’re boooriinnngggg🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
so this all depends on timing tbh i think if you were there around the 2014 point that was when hating taichi was at an all time high because of the kiss lmao 😭 i myself rage quit and dropped the manga and didn’t return to it until six years later once the third season had aired. but yes in the years since he left the club things started to really shift in taichi’s favor and i mean not exactly unsurprisingly considering the execution of his comeback arc. but the way it also tied in with cementing the tchy romance kind of fucked things up for arata because tchy shippers finally had the chance to lord over everyone for not being crazy. so now arata is just the guy a handful of people who barely interact with the fandom anymore still love from afar 😭 back when the series was in its final two or so years of publication i was friends with a lot of the big arata accounts and pretty much all of them withdrew from the fandom after the last chapter was published because the blowback was just so bad like omfg you should have seen the chyfr discord. hell on earth and what drove me to abandon the app completely. current chyfr fandom is mostly only just tchy shippers
i have my ships that i love and support obv but as the years go by shipping as a culture has grown to piss me off so severely because it’s like you could have a great piece of media that you want to recommend to someone for its holistic qualities—cast, storytelling, artwork, etc—but when they look into it themselves the loudest voices will always be of shippers who make it look like that piece of media is about nothing else
when the bromance is so good, that everyone around you (including the ENTIRETY OF NEW YORK) knows you're together.. except for you
every now and then i have to remind myself that the overwhelming status quo of the chyfr fandom is hating arata and i just have to be like what the fuck
(assuming we all hate monogamy here) i dont think it is actually possible to draw a clear line between jealousy and any ordinary love romantic or otherwise jealousy draws into the focus a relationship between yourself and your desire for the best for those you love are you the best? are you not the best? tricky question but if i want the best for u probably one i have to face rather than ignore. maybe this is tautologically obvious but as someone who has fairly unpleasant encounters with my own jealousy ive found this line of thinking helpful for following those feelings along to something i can do something more with
can someone tell me where to read the spin-off manga because the only bits of it i see are from tchy shippers on twt who presumably cut anything out that isn't immediately relative to them and i don't see translations up on any of the normal sites
still have no idea where to read this or if it’s being translated (evidently not) but this is killing me. why does he look like he’s about to cry dude you were the one who decided to date her pull yourself together

Have you heard of skip to loafer? I think you would really like shima (he reminds me so much of taichi)
yes! some of my close chyfr mutuals are very into it so i have been meaning to read it myself. if you're active on twt lilatheduckk writes an analysis for every chapter! 😊
sry i'm not updating on the taichi panels in the spin-off manga i need to. figure out how to actually read it first LMAO
oomf reading chyfr for the first time and wow you guys arataichi was so fawking real
i also need to look into when it actually starts publishing but i maaaaay transition this into a space to talk about suetsugu’s new soccer moms manga. we’ll see. i’m in my second year o law school it’s honestly up in the air what i have time for lol
Suetsugu-sensei’s post for Taichi turning twenty!
i've loved chyfr for over ten years now that's kind of crazy to think about
i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.
