He had slept so much during day time that he couldn’t stay asleep for long. As he stepped outside, the first sign that autumn was approaching rushed over his face. Cool breeze washed away his grogginess as he took a deep breath. His steps quicken to a slow jog, and a thin layer of water vapor had condensed above his lips by the time he reached the street side basketball court.
Someone was already there before him. Someone he recognized. He watched as the other dribbled the leathery sphere, then spoke, his low voice reaching across the quiet dim dawn.
“Isn’t it too early? It’s barely light enough to see the ball.”
