the bravest thing i ever did was continuing my life when i wanted to die
lord though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i’m not scared ‘cause you’re holding my breath
i only fear that i don’t have enough time left to tell the world that there’s no time left
I’ve spent so many nights wondering when it will end, when will the day come when happiness begins?
I’m running the race but it seems so hard to win.
I never healed I just learnt to carry the burden

“Vell, technically it istn’t possible. Zhe sun does burn us, zhat much ist true, but zhere ist ein vay to overcome zhat.” Setting his utensils down, he pulled out a necklace from under his shirt, “Vearing ein Bloodstone like zhis ist vone of zhose vays. Never found oaut hau it vorks zhough.” It was a nice loophole though, even if he didn’t know how it worked. After slipping the necklace back under his shirt, he picked up his fork again, clearly signaling the other to ask another question.
Adrian tilted his head a bit as he listened to Kudari. Bloodstones? That made some sense in a way. He always thought they had protective qualities but never thought they would work for vampires. “That’s pretty interesting.” He said as he watched the necklace get hidden again. “Now... What about this?” He lifted the silver crucifix from his chest. “I could have sworn I’d heard of hunters using these to ward off vampires. That clearly doesn’t seem to be working one you two.”

Hearing the response, the Vampire gave a nod as he watched the other settle his things, “Alright, but if jou need anyzhing, all jou haff to do ist give ein shout. Bruder und I can get some take oaut later vhen jou get hungry too.” He figured he’d let the man be alone for a while. Some time later, after food had been bought, Kudari sat crossed legged on one of the cushions in the living room. He’d gotten about half way through his meal when he looked up at Adrian, “So, vant to start asking questions nau?”
He gave a nod as he settled on the bag. At the mention of food another question rose to his mind but he didn’t ask it. It could wait just like the rest. Later as they all ate he had stayed quiet through most of the meal. When Kudari spoke to him he looked up. “Ah, yes.” Though his earlier one about food had been answered quite clearly. The most prominent question in his mind came out first. “How was it that the two of you were in the sun earlier? I always thought that wasn’t possible.”

Kudari gave a nod as he turned, “Alright zhis vay zhen.” He spoke, bringing him back to where they slept. Once in the little room, he pulled out the spare sleeping bag and set it up. Moving over to his bag, he started going through it to find a blanket, “Ah, here ve go.” Pulling it out, he set it on top of the sleeping bag, “Zhere, vill zhat do? I might haff ein heavier blanket if zhat’s naut enough.” He spoke, looking back at Adrian.
The Exorcist followed after the vampire quietly. His dark gaze traveled over his surroundings as they went. It wasn’t much but then again he wasn’t expecting much for a pair of vampires that didn’t want attention. He stopped in the doorway of the room and watched as the other set up a sleeping area for him. He remained quiet until he was spoken to again. “This will be fine, thank you.” Adrian stepped over and set his book next to the sleeping bag.

“Alright. Vould jou like to lay down nau until jour head clears?” He could take him back to where they were sleeping and go find a blanket too while it was on his mind, “Shouldn’t be too hard to find vone. Like I said, ve do haff vone somevhere after all.” He was still mildly concerned over what he’d said earlier too. Hopefully he agreed to lay down because he didn’t want to force him.
Adrian was about to decline but stopped himself. With all the excitement of they day he wouldn’t doubt that his curse was likely to act up on him if he did much more. The panic from the vampire’s confession was still eating at him even. He gave a nod, “I think that would be a good idea, yes.” The Exorcist pulled one of his hands away to bend over and pick up his book. He merely nodded at the rest of what was said to him.

“Ja, zhat’s right. Vampires can be born just like humans can. Und I did say I vould answer jour questions so if jou vant to know somezhing go einhead und ask.” Hearing his name, he gave a nod, “Vell, nice to properly meet jou Adrian.” At the last statement he gave a nod, “Vell, alright. It can get ein bit drafty zhough so jou might need ein blanket too. I’m sure ve haff vone somevhere zhough.” While they were pretty immune to cold, Kudari liked wrapping himself in blankets here and there.
He did have a few curious questions but was a little overwhelmed still. “I think when my head is a little clearer I’ll ask. I may be likely to forget later.” He gave a nod before speaking again. “You as well, Kudari.” Thinking about that and his near constant blood loss made him realize that it was probably a good idea. “Actually yeah, I probably should. I’m not near as durable as you and your brother.” And was that an understatement if he ever heard one.

The Vampire gave a nod, “Vell, ve grew up togezher vith our parents und such. Ve’re naut going to einbandon each ozher so easily.” He gave another smile, finally letting go of the exorcist’s hands, “I am Kudari, by zhe vay. Mein bruder ist Nobori.” Might as well introduce himself now. Looking behind them, he thought for a moment, “Ve don’t really haff proper beds, but I’m sure ve can fix somezhing up for jou. Ve do haff ein spare sleeping bag.” He was more so talking to himself, moving a hand to rub at his chin thoughtfully.
“So you and he were born this way?” That was an interesting be of information. He could only assume that this fact made them stronger than those who were turned. If he ever got out it would be his job to share this with the hunters he knew. “My name’s Adrian. Adrian Antonelli.” He wasn’t sure if the name he’d gotten for himself among other Exorcists had spread so far as to be known by supernatural creatures. “I don’t need anything special so don’t fret over it. Just the sleeping bag will be fine.”
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
“Vell zhen jou von’t haff to vorry as much because I don’t need ein lot of protection. Jou already know some zhings don’t hurt bruder und I.” Namely the sun and crucifix the other was wearing. Hearing him agree, Kudari gave a smile before he laughed a bit at the last part, “Trust me, if I said to drop it zhen he’d drop it. I made him let go of jou earlier, didn’t I? He alvays listens to me vhen I tell him to do somezhing.” Because Nobori didn’t want to upset him mainly. It was how the younger twin got away with a lot.
He knew it was supposed to make him feel better but the first sentence did little to ease his mind. The other didn’t understand why he felt the need to protect everyone he could, not just his loved ones. With all this in mind, he didn’t comment. He wasn’t ready to share his past with anyone. “You’re lucky to have someone who cares so much... I know a lot of times certain creatures will turn on their own for survival.” It was the way of nature at times. Humans even did it and more often then anything else.
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
“Clearly it already zhinks it’s picked who’s best for me.” This was starting to get frustrating, “I don’t need protection zhough. I can handle meinself und if I do get in trouble bruder ist alvays einround. Besides, if jou’re past mistakes mean anyzhing, jou’ll be more careful zhan before.” His grip tightened, but not uncomfortably so, on the exorcist’s hands, “Please, just spend ein few days vith us. If nozhing happens, if jou don’t feel anyzhing jou can leave, just please at least give it ein chance.”
Adrian looked up with a bit of a harsh stare. “My being able to protect someone isn’t just for the other person. It’s for me too.” He shook his head, not overly wanting to explain. It was hard to. After what he seen he didn’t want to fail in protecting someone again. It could very well break him. The grip on his hands prevented him from pulling away like he suddenly wanted but he didn’t fight it. The Exorcist couldn’t take the pleading tone in the vampire’s voice much longer. “Alright, alright. Just a few days. Not like that brother of yours would let me go so easily anyways...”
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
“If it’s somezhing internal, becoming ein Vampire vill heal it. Und I don’t care hau big of ein mess jou are. Zhe instinct chose jou for ein reason.” His hand went back down to hold onto Adrian’s hand again, “Vhy does zhat sound like jou’re underestimating mein einbility to defend meinself?” He did pick up on the again bit, but to him it sounded more like his question, “I’m far stronger zhan bruder. So much so zhat he hast to hunt for zhe bozh of us.”
He sighed a bit, unsure what to say without explaining about the curse on him. “It should have picked someone better....” His black eyes shifted back to their hands. It was so odd to have them held in such a way again. “No, no... I’ve learned the hard way not to underestimate supernatural creatures. If anything... I underestimate myself and my ability to keep anyone safe. I screwed up in the past and I’m sure I will again.” He wasn’t really too surprised by the last statement. Some creatures of the same species were much stronger than others but often lacked control.
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
Hearing what he said made his eyes widen, “If zhat’s zhe case let me turn jou! Becoming ein Vampire can heal all diseases, even vones zhat haff nein cure!” He had no idea it wasn’t a disease the other was dying from, “Please, even if i hardly know jou I, I can’t lose einozher-” Still keeping hold of the other man’s hand with one of his own, he brought his other up to cover his mouth. He wasn’t trying to guilt trip the man, he just couldn’t help what left his mouth right now. Clearly this was getting to him.
He could hear the concern in the vampire’s voice and it just hurt. Adrian looked down so his bangs hid his eyes. “It’s not that simple. I wish it was that simple.” He murmured. “Even if it was I’m still a mess you really don’t want to deal with.” Hearing that he wasn’t the only one to lose a lover didn’t overly faze him more than he was already. “There’s another reason this wouldn’t be good. We would both lose someone again.” He wouldn’t be able to handle that again.
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
At least he was taking this better than some, “Vell I really don’t haff much of ein choice in zhe matter. I’ll feel zhis until vone of us dies. Even if jou don’t stay vith me zhe instinct vill make me stay close by jou.” Standing up, he walked over to him, gently taking one of the exorcist’s hands in both of his own, “Please, just, stay for ein vhile? See vhat happens?” It was the least he could do after all. The Vampire couldn’t help but have something of a pleading look in his eyes.
Not until one of them died? “That might come sooner than you think...” He said looking down at their hands. He hadn’t noticed before but it seemed as though the shock had made him drop his book. “I am dying and faster than the rate of a normal human. There is nothing that can be done to stop it.” He wasn’t going to say why he was dying in hopes that the other would change his mind and let him go. He also purposely left out the one way it could end since he wanted to do it himself.
Wrong Place || ForsakenExorcist
“Vell I supposed it can be.” He spoke in response to the murmur. Hearing the last part made him chuckle again, “Vell, I’ll be villing to tell jou vhat jou vant to know. After I figure oaut hau to say vhat I vant to I mean.” He took a deep breath before continuing, “Jou see, us Vampires haff zhis, instinct of sorts. It, it tells us who our soul mate ist. Ve’ll feel it more zhan vonce if somezhing happened to our previous mate und, vell…” He trailed off, looking to the side.
Adrian remained quiet for the most part, listening to the vampire speak...until just what he meant hit him.
Shock hit him first but was violently pushed aside by fear. Not of the vampire, no, it wasn’t him. “You... You don’t want a mess like me. I’m not good for you.” He knew it was near impossible to ignore instinct but he had to say something to deter it. He shook his head and stepped back. “I shouldn’t have taken this job... I’ll just be a huge burden on you and your brother if I stay here.” He wasn’t going to allow someone else to get hurt over him.
