Story Time!
So over the last several months, I’ve had various respiratory illnesses that have kept me from being active. It started with bronchitis, then a cold, then another round of bronchitis, which turned into pneumonia, then finally, two more colds.
All that coughing led to an intercostal muscle strain, which culminated with an ER visit after a particularly funny YouTube video made me laugh/snort so violently that there was a very loud pop and breathing was no longer a thing I could do. I finally could pull in a breath, but a little while later I sneezed. It hurt so badly that I just kinda went down and didn’t want to breath again, so off to the hospital I went. (Side note: my 96-year old granddad offered to go with me, it was incredibly precious, if unnecessary..) Thankfully there were no broken bones, only soft tissue injury.
Recently, it’s been hurting less so I decided that I should get moving again so I don’t end up with another case of pneumonia or other respiratory nonsense. So last week I started Couch 2 5k. This has exacerbated the intercostal injury and I’m having to taking it very slow.
I decided Friday that I wanted to go swimming. Being to person with no impulse control that I am, I decided to join the local YMCA. Because it has an indoor aquatic center. Hopefully this will help me get some motivation back.
I also hope that one day I get to the point where I stop injuring myself in sitcom-worthy fashion.
Tl;dr:
I almost broke my ribs laughing at a YouTube video, now I belong to a gym.
My shins, hips, and ribs are not pleased at the moment, but I’m happy I was able to check it off the list. I have really missed running and am glad I’m finally able to get back to it.
It has been far, far too long! I’m starting Couch 2 5k at the beginning. Again! Because it’s been waaaay too long since I’ve hit the pavement. I figure I’ll switch back to zombies, run! once I graduate from training. Nike seems to have added and retooled features on their app since I’ve been on hiatus, so that will be interesting to figure out. On a side note, I can totally tell my age from my difficulty with technology.
A whole week back at it. Go me!

This run was sooooo sweaty. Oh, well, at least warm weather is here.

Maaaaaaaaan. Well, that is certainly interesting.
Another treadmill run. It was so unnoteworthy that all I can remember is the plot of the mission and spoilers are bad, even if I'm a couple of years behind.
Bananas and blueberries are headed for the dehydrator! I know it takes longer but at least I know what’s on my fruit. Store-bought dehydrated fruit has extra ingredients I don’t want. These little guys will be used in a new snack bar recipe later this week!
A food dehydrator is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. My blueberries did not end up looking remotely as good as these, I’m kinda jealous.
Race Day! Just about everything that could have gone wrong in the morning, did. I ended up running with no music, no zombies, and no GPS. I’m pretty sure I even got lost at some point. At least I didn’t slip, fall, or otherwise injure myself. I made it out of the woods eventually, no worse for the wear except for a little mud.
