You needed him yet failed to use the phone he gave you and fucked off to another planet? STFU.
I’ve seen enough of this ‘Tony didn’t call and fuck off to space’ bs so maybe people like you really don’t use your braincells before you speak or learn to think in context, because the only reason you bring up ‘Tony failed to call Steve and he’s fucked off to space!’ is that you thought Tony was blaming Steve for not being with him in space or him being on Earth with Steve. So let me tell you now, no, that’s not it. He wasn’t mad because they weren’t together infinity war, he was mad of the reason why they couldn’t be together in the first place: Steve left Avengers and split the team in half when he promised in aou they would face any hostile threat together. It was the break in promise, break in trust (re: civil war), that Tony was mad about.
The point was never about who didn’t call, because while you can say Tony ‘failed to call’ despite the fact that he had been carrying around the phone with him so he could call Steve anytime he needed him, only couldn’t actually make the call because the Black Order was too busy attacking them and kidnapping Dr Strange along with Peter, and he had to chase after them to the spaceship,
also excuse him for caring about the lives on Earth and wanting to avoid causing more collateral damage and lives loss, and decided to take the fight to titan instead.
So while you’re faulting him for being busy saving lives protecting earth and fail to call Steve, I can also raise this point, so why didn’t Steve call or reach out in that two years, he knew perfectly where Tony was, he could have called and resolved their differences and worked together to reform the Avengers, but he didn’t either. He shared as much, if not more, responsibility as Tony, to call. If you’re so pressed about the phone record in Infinity War.
The truth is, they both had valid reasons not to call each other, because they’d split up, they were at odds. And the break had scarred their relationship so deep they couldn’t face each other before it was too late. IW had shown that both were willing to reach out when danger stroke and they were willing to put aside their differences to fight. However, the unfortunate thing was ‘It’s too late.’
You see, and this is what Tony was talking about in that scene, ‘it’s too late,’ Them not being able to face it together in Infinity War had became inevitable because of what happened in Civil War, the trust between them had broken because Steve had lied to Tony about his parents death, and then he had left, instead of staying to fix the breach together with Tony. When IW happened, it was all too late, they hadn’t been prepared for it as a team, ‘I needed you, as in past tense,’ Tony had needed Steve to stay, to fix them together, so they could be prepared to face any external threat together, just like Steve had promised in AoU. But none of that happened, because Steve left, that was why Tony said, we lost, and you weren’t there.
