He had aged. Not in the way Rita dreaded for herself but rather from a starry eyed young boy into a bright eyed young man perhaps with a bit more clarity then heâd known before. There was sorrow in seeing him again, Rita couldnât help but be saddened by all sheâd missed of his life. She hadnât seen him become a hero, but then again that was perhaps for the best. The idea of seeing Gar so close to danger made her uneasy. Just as much saddened she felt however, she also felt pride. He had become a wonderful young man just as she always knew he had the potential to be. âHello Garfield.â She said, not giving him much time to react before embracing him. Sheâd come to Gotham to find him after all, and it had taken longer then she had thought it would but it was nonetheless worth it. Reeling back, she realized. âYou became taller then me.â A sad but incredibly fond smile bore her lips. âHow dare you.â She said, smiling. âMy sweet boy, taller then me.. look how much youâve grown.â / @fortheloveoftofuâ
Garfield had left the Doom Patrol a bright eyed, bushy tailed young kid who wanted a shot at helping people with the power he possessed. The group had done more to help him than he would ever be able to repay but his destiny lied elsewhere with another group. Leaving them hadnât been easy, especially with Larry and Rita. Through the years they had become like parents to him, helping him navigate life when he felt lost without a map. It had been hard to leave them, to lose the direction, but it was all part of growing up and leaving the nest. He had needed to spread his wings. âRita?â The shapeshifter was pulled into a hug before he had a chance to process the fact that it really was her. His arms wrapped around the woman tightly, he held her in an embrace with no intention of letting go until she did. âIâm sorry,â he let out a short laugh as she pulled back from him. Loosening his grip, Garfield pulled back to look her in the eyes. Rita was the closet thing he had to a mother now and it showed in the way they cared for each other. âDo you think Iâm taller than Larry yet?âÂ
