From a storytelling aspect, I really love this new twist. They’ve managed to:

Avoid actually having to appear in a court of law, which is not the place you want to be running a fake baby scam

Create the immediate need for a paternity test, because if they intended to go to court this morning to establish paternity and ask for custody, Louis has to have already “taken a paternity test”

This means that TMZ is now free to drop the bomb at literally any moment, because – OOPS! Test results were not what we were expecting!

But it also keeps Louis above the whole thing and entirely sympathetic because he never asked for a test, he never doubted Freddie was his, all he wanted was to get to spend a fair amount of time with his baby son while not getting completely taken to the cleaners by his gold-digging baby mama. He’s sweet, loving, but not a complete idiot.

Apart from the obvious, there’s something really important to take away from TMZ’s segment, and that’s the video message that they had from a member of the public. 

She made it very clear that Louis “needs to have better people around him” helping him make these decisions. So for everyone who’s worried about whether Louis will come out of this looking like a fool, he won’t. The public are clearly placing blame on the doorstep of those who manage him. 

And I for one have absolutely no problem with that.
