After the 50 Ferrari and the 38 Cadillac went into no man’s land, my friend and I mutually decided to root for Kobayashi. (In his words it was because he was cool).

Fell asleep with 7 hours left thinking there was no chance and woke up with an hour left to the 7 Toyota in the lead. Ngl, I’ve got no idea what happened in the 6 hours I was conked out but it was fun to see him and his team win. (Yeah yeah Ferrari fan and all but they won Le Mans for three years in a row. It’d have been sweet for a fourth but some things aren’t meant to happen)

Still like to know what happened in those 6 hours though besides a good strategy.

The red car won but the other red car went kaput. Worse, that other red car was the one I wanted to win so idk how to feel. Atleast Mercedes run ended but why is Charles going through every circle of hell.

They say don’t meet your heroes but as someone who’s sort of met him, he’s a nice guy and that’s more you can say about a lot of people. There’s more to an athlete than just their performance and I’ll always support him until he retires.

all of these are current regulations fault tbh. we're not celebrating drivers' talent anymore. and we don't have extraordinary racing. we don't even see real overtakes anymore. it's just grand prix after grand prix where some shit just happens like mechanical failure or penalties. and they try to make you believe that it's what formula 1 is about

no because why does every race have have a million dnfs. why does every start have someone stall. why are the overtakes just an endless yoyo of people running out of battery. why does every race weekend come and go and no one cares. why is viewership on the decline.

because the powers that be have decided that prioritizing money is more important than prioritizing talent and they don't seem to get that it doesn't matter if we are racing on the moon if the regulations take out all the excitement of it. exciting regulations with motivated drivers could race in an empty field and produce a more interesting race than the entirety of the 2026 season so far.

fun fact my partner went to an AWS conference recently and they had a talk about F1 where they apparently talked about how their neural networks helped design the new regulations to maximise overtakes…. so this literally is just entirely artificially engineered “racing”

to sum it up:

ferrari didn’t tell either charles or lewis that lewis had a penalty which made charles push unnecessarily hard when he only needed to be within 5 seconds

ferrari was unable to fix the brake problem for charles leading to him having no confidence all weekend and unpredictable brakes

ferrari then double stacked both ferrari cars under the safety car and served lewis’ penalty which led to charles unnecessarily also serving that 5 second penalty, so the team punished charles when he had nothing to do with that penalty

the pitstop was also unnecessary because his tyres were fine and he could’ve maybe led the race or at least finished second

the pitstop gave charles cold tyres that he was unable to warm up and the brakes were still broken which meant he crashed into the wall at the restart of the race

all in all ferrari screwed over their most loyal driver at his home grand prix after he told the world he sold his soul to them for the rest of his life

ferrari basically re-signed charles for a 100 million euro contract with a yearly salary that increases with a base of 40 million euros and it's long life as long as he pleases with the activation quite literally in his hands

no team has allowed a driver to have more leeway like this (except maybe verstappen) and you think he's the victim in this scenario lmfao

Post race thoughts: The good and the eh

P4 for Charles isn’t super ideal (didn’t even get a Lestappen battle but we did get Red Bull v Ferrari so ig the spirit was there?) but I’ll take it given how the entire weekend was going for him. About time he had luck on his side.

An angel dies in heaven every time a Mercedes wins and while I can tolerate Kimi more, still bleh.

But a Lewis P2, a George DNF and a Lando DNF (which happened right in front of me), McLaren strategy disaster class and Max’s first podium was pretty peak. Oscar also hit Alex right in front of me too.

Unfortunately I have little legs and shit lungs so I couldn’t make the actual ceremony in time but I did make it in time to the pitlane for Lewis to wave at me! (2 for 2 on Ferrari drivers waving at me :D) and also snap a picture of Kimi.

What a weekend.

Also the crowd went insane went Lewis overtook Max, he’s really loved here.

Shoutout to the guy behind me who let out a very audible ‘fuck’ followed by polite clapping from the crowd when R*ssell put it on pole. While Lewis and Charles got audible cheers and whoops during their purple sectors.

Nobody likes him and nobody likes Merc.
