Jay Rock’s 90059

I ain’t gon lie, I sleep on Jay Rock at times. But most times, when I do get around to listening to him, I never state that his ish is wack. I like that TDE has a fluid roster but everyone still has their own individual sound.

The first attention to this new album (released September 11th) was from the album’s title track “90059″ showcased a month prior. I mean Sza is at the start of the video sooooo of course I noticed. #girlcrush

The second came just recently via Soundcloud. If anyone sees ‘Black Hippy’ posted anywhere, that ish will make moves. As always, the label’s frontmen (Kendrick, Soul, and Schoolboy) joined Jay Rock on a second single “Vice City”. This song caught waves QUICK, but what makes it solid is that EVERY SINGLE PERSON holds their own but sooooo fluidly! Like got damn! (Though Isaiah Rashad is still ghost :/ )

Thanks to the Apple creators for Apple music. I’m about to go stream the shit out of 90059 and if I approve, I’ll add to the library.

Where is Isaiah Rashad?

I’ve done research. As much as possible. Don’t worry.

But sorry. Even after my research, I still don’t really know. lol

What I’ve come up with is that he should have an album coming out soon; the name, release date, or any hints period are pretty much nonexistent though. :/

Basically, I can see through his Twitter that, just like the rest of TDE, he is putting on for his labelmates. TDE makes very smart moves in my opinion when it comes to their artists. Everyone gets their shine individually while the others take roles as #1 supporters. That’s cool and all, but still...

...Isaiah! Where you been at boy?!

Most of the TDE family will at least participate in a feature here and there. I’ve heard Isaiah on about 3 (and that’s including “Warm Winds”: his feature on SZA’s first project that was released quite a while ago.)

He’s been on a few tours and opened for Nas at the Fader #ObeyYourThirst event but I didn’t get to see that shit so it doesn’t count.

Cilvia Demo was released over a year ago and I’ve barely seen this dude since. Something either better be brewing or has begun already under TDE’s sneaky yet skillful execution. But if this were me and I were a rapper who had enough fans like Isaiah Rashad, I’d go on long ass breaks so people would forget about me and then come out with some tight shit and then disappear again. Spurts of money is all I need. #FucktheFame

But I’m not Isaiah Rashad. And he ain’t me. So I’m just hoping he is next in line...

In case you were wondering...

And I don’t give a fuck enough about “beef” so I didn’t even know Migos and their labelmate OG Maco got into a small spat on Twitter about the origination of the word/dance/movement. 

But ah well! That’s irrelevant to how much I fucking LOVE this song!! Minus the poetry towards the end. Unnecessary. Sounds like the often-incarcerated member Offset and may be paying homage (I respect that) but save that for an interlude mane. I’m tryna jam!

But I love the Migos man. Like the same level as Future’s music type-love and that’s a big feat! I hope they continue to prosper because they have been holding on strong and I’m talking about holding on to me as fan. That’s hard to do.

Tuesday Cruisin’ | Samantha

It’s always a great feeling when something falls in your lap. That was kind of the case with Toro y Moi’s surprise release on 8/28 titled Samantha: consisting of 20 solid tracks that be having me cruisin’, groovin’, and movin’ mane. This comes as kind of a surprise being that Moi’s last 2 joints were lackluster to me. Chaz Bundick and I happened to share feelings a couple years ago about how we are just tired of music in general. And yea..I could tell you were tired mane...

But it seems that the musical sensors have awakened but in a curious form. As Chad stated himself around the time of his last project What For? (in which I wasn’t fond of) was released:

“I’ve done electronic R&B and more traditional recorded type stuff -- I just wanted to see what else was out there...it’s all coming from the same mindset and point of creativity. It’s just me trying to take what I already have, and then taking it further”

A Visit From Kendrick Lamar — Best Day Of School Ever?

A New Jersey high school teacher used the rapper's latest album to teach a unit on Toni Morrison's novel, The Bluest Eye. Lamar found out about it, and decided to stop in for a visit.

My friends and I were just discussing this. Supremacy has caused a feeling of inferiority from others towards us and even amongst ourselves as the minority. And this is due to systemic issues placed upon us in many, many areas....one big area being education.

It's time to start TEACHING and it's time for children (especially OUR children) to learn and grasp the nature of the context to use to progress themselves.

This teacher Brian Mooney, in this particular story, did exactly that. Music is most certainly a form of journalism and he showed that in a respectful and EFFECTIVE manner by combining the knowledge and words from Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” and also Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. I respect Mr. Mooney beyond words for CARING to show these students what they are about. And I respect Kendrick Lamar for solidifying that.

As the young girl stated: “I can connect to it because it’s a language I can understand. Music is one of those universal languages and it’s the best teaching tool you can implement in schools...”

Beyoncé Biographer Claims To Have The Tea On SolangeGate

New York Times Best-Selling author J. Randy Taraborrelli claims that his new unauthorized Beyoncé biography will shed light on the infamous elevator brawl.

I am not fond of unauthorized biographies because that only means the headliner that it was about really wasn’t messin’ wit it.

But Beyonce doesn’t mess with a lot of shit so I’m used to it. This is the closest I will get to some scoop. I be needing to stay hip on Bey (for my own personal reasons not for Beyhive type reasons....plus the Beyhive probably doesn’t mess with this either since their Queen Bey does not. Tis’ why I love being me; I’m nosey so F yall).

WOMAN CRUSH WEDNESDAY - AMY.

With the release of the new documentary, now in theatres, titled “Amy”, we are of course seeing many remastered and remixed releases from the soulful, London native. The mix by Nehzuil above just puts a simple stamp on the fact of why we loved Amy in the first place: her voice. 

 I heard the documentary was amazing (cosigned by Mark Ronson). It showcases Amy on the comeup as a teenager, all the way to her recognized fame, to the moochers, and even through her downfall.

BIRDMAN DISCUSSES LIL WAYNE W/ ANGIE MARTINEZ

Ay man....I’m sorry but this interview was weak across the boards. Not only did we get the constant reiteration that yes....Lil Wayne is Birdman’s “son”, but.........yea we basically just got that. I like Angie Martinez but I’m sorry...she didn’t make it any better. 

Interviews are hard as is. You have to keep the people’s attention. And let me be the first to say that my attention left immediately when I continued to hear the same ass questions from Angie and the same ass answers from Birdman: “Wayne my son. It my son. Weezy my son, mane”.

In case you didn’t listen to the interview, yea the basis was that Wayne is Birdman’s son......so I guess the point was that he would never participate in all the supposed bullshit going on that Wayne and/or the media is claiming.

Main points I got from it (and the only thing that mattered to me):

1. The whole bus shooting incident?....that’s Birdman’s son, man. He would never do no bullshit like that to his son. And he gon’ find who did it! Oh...and no he wasn’t indicted it for that shit.

2. Wayne is under contract but is supposedly not stuck under rule. Birdman said he doesn’t want Wayne to go but he will not stop him either.

3. Weezy is his sooonnnn, man!

Video Catch-Up: Kendrick Lamar

I don’t know about you but I suck at keeping up-to-date with the latest music videos (this is most likely due to the fact that I stick to indie audio platforms majority of the time); however visuals are always nice…..especially Kendrick Lamar’s.

I’m only hip that he released a visual for his interlude “For Free” (above) from his latest master class album To Pimp A Butterfly. I only became privy to this information because I have hip ass friends who were nice enough to share with me as soon as it hits the waves (usually I get the same response months down the line: “Oh you never seen it?”).  

First and foremost, we get to smile real quick at the Terrace Martin appearance at the beginning….after all he is the sound that brings us in. The representation of the message in this video is highly appealing and I also realized (I’m late..I know) that visuals help you become more engaged with the song as a whole (we get to see the ol’ hungry bitch from the beginning who is going to get her Uncle Sam, who makes an appearance as well, to fuck dude up because he ain’t no king). We get to see what the guy who’s dick ain’t free has been working with (sorry…no reveals like that ladies) and we get to see exactly why it isn’t free.

At the end of the video, my only thought?: Good shit, man.

This seems to be a consistent case with Sir Lamar after, also, catching up with the rest of his creative visuals from his latest project. Anyone as behind as I was? Maybe there is a little bit of time for me to hip others as well…
