Practicing machine appliqué before I go putting things onto my friend’s halloween costume. The blanket stitch look is kind of a hack… it’s actually a stretch fabric overlock stitch but that’s the closest thing my machine can do. I kept getting thread nests under the satin stitches so I cleaned out my bobbin/hook/race area and now it seems to be acting better. I don’t know where I put the machine oil…
I'm thinking about learning the basics of horseback riding. I started looking for lesson places around the city. A friend recommended one she went to as a child but it's 30 miles (about an hour) outside of the city, which may be a little too far. Perhaps next week when Halloween stuff is all over I'll start calling around. I might have to wait for the spring/summer when it gets warm again too...
Tanto (or was it Tonto?) the pony! My first time ever on a horse!
Sharing a house with 8 other male college students...
oh my
Best pic I have so far of my MGS2 Solid Snake costume
My MGS2 Solid Snake costume won me the singles section of the costume contest at my house’s Halloween party today! I was kind of hoping someone who doesn’t actually live here would win, but they decided to do a “how loud is the crowd” kind of voting instead of a judging panel and the crowd spoke.
There were a few things I couldn’t finish in time: the slots and grommets in the elbow pads, sewing on the elbow/knee pad velcro (it stayed put with its adhesive through the contest but then started coming loose), Snake’s magazine/etc. pouches. I will try to finish it all up soon and hang onto it. It will make a nice option for conventions. I have found that it’s good to have a different costume each day of a con, because they wind up gettin B.O.
I learned a lot about sewing through this project and got a few new tools out of it, which is always nice! I may use the remaining fabric to make myself a new tank bag for my motorcycle :)
There is so much cleaning to do tomorrow…
I will upload pictures when I get them from people who brought cameras
Vest rear paracord closure and shirt grommets done! I still have to finalize the sizes of some straps and install buckles, velcro the kneepads, make the elbow pads, make the forehead bandana wrap thing, and if I have time, make more mag pouches. I bought a finished leg holster to save time there, so that’s done too. One of my housemates gave me a pretty funny mullet wig that I can use, but I have to check with him if I can trim it; it’s a little long in the back. I will be using my motorcycle gloves and boots since they’re pretty close matches so those are ready to go too. itshappening.gif … but sleep first. Goodnight!
What the heck... 4am already? I looked at the clock a moment ago and it was 1:50 :o
Knee pad covers done except for adding some velcro to close them. Hoping that is enough to keep them secure… might have to make one more Joann run for elastic material if not…
This thing is finally starting to come together… so many straps and loops and grommets yet to go though! I have under 24 hours now to get this done!
Knee pad pattern design. Knee pad insert made from a corner of a milk jug and pieces of an old backpack strap foam and hot glue. None of that mess will be visible on the outside.
I think it might be about time to sleep. I ran out of thread! I’m starting to worry I won’t get this all done in time =o
The flap might kind of be too narrow but I think I might just stick with this.
I just realized I needed to sew on the buckle before closing up the side of each pouch... time to get out the seam ripper :B
Pattern development for some pouches. About to cut this out and test it. I may have to make adjustments later, not sure this will work
