Theodore was quite freaked out on his first day of his second year at Hogwarts when he saw the thestrals. He had no idea what they were, but he definitely think of them of as kind of creepy – and it scared the shit out of him when nobody else could actually see them when he asked if one of his fellow Slytherins knew what they were.
Within his first week back at Hogwarts, he approached Professor Kettleburn, convinced that if anyone could explain, it would be him. Theodore was right about that.
He didn’t like the way Professor Kettleburn looked at him, all pity and sadness in his eyes. He didn’t understand it either. At least until he got the explanation.
“They’re thestrals,” Kettleburn explained, voice so soft that it almost felt as though he was trying to somehow protect Theodore from whatever he was about to hear. “Unvisible to most people, they can only seen by those who have witnessed someone die.”
At that point, Theodore regrets asking. He didn’t need the reminder that his mother died – right in front of him, without him even noticing anything was wrong. With every year that passes, he misses his mother more and more and wishes she were still around. By now, Theodore has already realized that not everything his father ever told him was true, and he’s painfully aware that his mother, who taught him how to think for himself, would have been on his side.
That is the reason why he hates the thestrals so much and why he looks at them in disgust whenever he sees them. They remind him of who he lost long before he understood just exactly how important his mother was to him (in this specific household). They remind him of this lost life in which he could have been a Ravenclaw, developing differently from how his father intended, not even having to pretend to hate muggleborns.
To Theodore, thestrals are a reminder of everything that could have been and he can’t help but hate them for that.

“This is a useful little spell,” he told the class over his shoulder. “Please watch closely.” He raised the wand to shoulder height, said “Waddiwasi!” and pointed it at Peeves. With the force of a bullet, the wad of chewing gum shot out of the keyhole and straight down Peeves’s left nostril; he whirled right way up and zoomed away, cursing. “Cool, sir!” said Dean Thomas in amazement. “Thank you, Dean,” said Professor Lupin, putting his wand away again. “Shall we proceed?”

oh trust me i know first hand about that first part. on the other hand, what you said made perfect sense to me and i do agree with you. i’m just less likely to be vocal on it and i still don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. i get that i’m privileged in just having the choice to be silent tho
that absolutely makes sense and it’s more than fine when people decide to be silent when it comes to stuff such as this! this really is just something that i’ve been thinking about a lot, especially since i thought about this version of ron, and it’s a point of view that i personally think is important in that conversation.
regalmalfoy replied to your post: y’all is it still a thing
What i learned on this website is that there will always be some stupid people that will make you feel bad for whatever you choose to do. I tend to agree with your point but i feel that as a cis female, i don’t really get to have an opinion since it does not concern me. if you want to write trans ron, i want you to be happy doing it and not scared.
you’re absolutely right about there always being someone making you feel bad! that’s the main reason why i tend to randomly disappear sometimes tbh. i personally think you definitely do get to say something about it in the sense of whether what i said makes sense or not, because sometimes i fear that it’s just me thinking about it and nobody else gets it. xD
y’all is it still a thing
that people expect you to use a trans faceclaim for your trans muse?
i mean, i’m a trans guy myself and this expectation that i’ve seen around a lot has always made me incredibly uncomfortable. i don’t know if it’s just me, but i always felt like it implies that when it comes to appearance (and only speaking about the face, since it’s a faceclaim), trans men and women just cannot look like cis men or women.
like. i could show people pictures of a bunch of trans people i know and they wouldn’t be able to tell they’re trans. this whole “this person looks/doesn’t look trans” is, in fact, transphobic as fuck. and being told i have to use a trans faceclaim for my trans muse just holds this implication that there is a way in which a trans person looks different than a cis person, always.
again, i’m saying and asking about this as a trans guy.

CASSIOPEIA MALFOY. / malfoydaughter
“Tricky little serpent right there mh.”
Her eyes ran through the words in the page, finding it most ridiculous how complex and unnecessary those spells were. Anyone in their right mind wouldn’t remember half of those would they ever encounter such a creature. And yet they were plastered here, proving their effectiveness. But Cassiopeia found it amusing how the simplest and perhaps the most effective way to deal with such a snake was not mentioned in the slightest.
“All of them sounds way too complicated. Granted those snakes have much more power than a common one, but I can guarantee you, a mere vipera evanesca will suffice.”
“Seriously? It’s that easy?”
Now he couldn’t help but feel slightly stupid, despite being aware that it wasn’t his fault at all. Theodore had read the text several times and it hadn’t mentioned this one, simple spell that he’d learned years ago.
“Well, thank you, then.” For just the fraction of a second, his lips curled into a small smile. “Alright, let’s switch to your problems before I die of embarrassment.”

i would
that’s because you’re sweet and too good for this world
@pureblooded-outcast and I are just talking about this wonderful Voldemort wins AU and now I’m freaking emotional about the OC kids that I came up with for Theodore and this OC wife whom he can’t even stand because she’s just as much of a blood purist piece of shit as his father
Me: sucks at being active
Also me: really wants to make a blog and write trans Ron
I don’t headcanon anything I just know and perceive the truth
