Humming was something Isaac did to pass the time. If he could get through one hymn from the Heavens, that could pass almost an hour or so of time. And sometimes he could get through two in a day down in the undercroft. While he missed being above ground, out in nature, he couldn’t dismiss the way he also missed talking to a variety of beings. It was the same guards, same faces that greeted him everyday, which was of some comfort in the routine of it all. But he wanted to see big smiles, hear laughter–things he desperately missed and needed over the last few days. “It’s no one’s fault,” he whispered melodically to himself, with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Guard, sir, how much longer until we get the hour in the garden?” He wasn’t even sure if it was a guard that was standing at the doorway behind him or not, but he could feel a presence there regardless.

The familiar didn’t often wander through the undercroft, but sometimes he went down there just to see who needed rescuing from it for a little while. If Todd could make a slave’s day just a little bit better, he would. On his phone and distracted for a moment, Todd lingered in a doorway as he typed out a reply to a text he’d received. When he heard someone speak, he looked up, wondering if they were talking to him. “Oh-- uh-- I’m not a guard, sorry man. Just a bartender,” he chuckled. “You wanting to get out of here for a bit? I can help you out with that one if you want?” Todd offered, giving the slave a reassuring little smile.
