Cannabidiol (which stands for the abbreviation CBD) is the non-high-potency agent of the hemp plant. Due to its low THC content, CBD products are theoretically legal - which makes them the darlings of the food industry: According to research by Mainz, manufacturers in the last two years alone have brought to the market over 100 dietary supplements with CBD in Germany alone.
The idea of natural relaxation is well marketed. Brownies and coffee are mixed with CBD, as are creams, shampoos and chewing gum. It is particularly popular in the form of oil: mixed with hemp seed oil CBD extract that drips under the tongue. The small vials are available with 2.5 / 5/10 or 15 percent active ingredient. All this would be signed by Franjo Grotenhermen. The general practitioner with practice in Rüthen (NRW) believes in the therapeutic effect of hemp, is chairman of the association "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Cannabis als Medizin" and has written a book about the application and effects of CBD. Basically, according to Grotenhermen, however, one must differentiate the numerous, over-the-counter lifestyle products from medical (prescription), high-dose CBD: "With daily three times three drops of CBD oil with a low concentration we are almost in the placebo range. This is comparable to low doses of valerian. "The latter could, depending on individual responsiveness, achieve" strong pharmacological effects ". But is there scientific evidence for that?
