I just think its really cool to see how different characters handle Ryland in Icebrood Saga. Isn't it funny that Bangar tells Rytlock that one of his failures is thinking of Ryland as his son when "Charr have no sons"
Despite the fact what prompts Bangar into killing Almorra himself is Almorra telling Bangar he failed Ryland as a son just as he failed ajax.
Crecia treats Ryland as the soldier he is, and its implied it wouldn't be strange that Ryland goes to her for advice. However its because of Crecia taking this colder, non-direct approach thats expected of charr parents that causes him to seek out other bonds, leading right into what was at first Bangar's manipulation and somewhat fatherly mentorship that ends with Ryland too becoming disillusioned with that and surpassing him, but then falls into Joemag's clutches as their champion. Isn't it fun the thing that prompts Ryland into attacking crecia is crecia saying she wish she bled him out <- fucking insane btw. And that he was never born, and the emotional response to that leads him to dying on impact from Rytlock's intervention.
Its fun that despite being a Super Legion Charr, Rytlock is looked upon as being un-charr like because he carries regret and emotional baggae and care for things he shouldn't (at least in bangars eyes.) He tries to enter Ryland's life when its already too late and makes things worse, another victim of Rytlock choosing sohothin and himself over everything else because he could have had a closer relationship if he didnt do what he did that caused him to leave the blood homelands for so long.
IBS, to me, was about so many things, but most importantly it was about how Charr civilization is killing its own people. Ryland is a victim of its war machine, just as they all are. The Dominion promised unity and a family, no gladiums, because in the end I think the charr want it but cant fathom breaking a system on their own. They need something to follow, and that is always their downfall. The Khan-ur, The Titans, The Destroyers, Dragons. Its so fun to me how theyre in this endless cycle theyre all drowning in without even realizing how fast the water has been rising. With no Big enemy left to fight, of course they turn on each other. Of course instead of giving up Ascalon (land already stolen from the grawl) they throw their people at immortal ghosts and call it a victory despite the fact ghosts reform and charr die. Of course something like Ryland happened, its inevitable. I hope they go into this somewhat, because now the idea of something beyond legion division beyond gladiums and a true united charr has already been planted in their heads I cant imagine everyone would just be fine going back to normal with no doubt in their minds....I think the civil war can lead to a greater crack in the ice and imo I think them having another khan-ur would be so disastrous!!!!! Fun !!!
You and your... aunt, Amica, are at Sig's Inn, about an hour by foot from your home in Venison Pass. Since you spoke with her last year for the first time in well over a decade, she's insisted on keeping in touch. This arrangement of meeting at Sig's worked for both of you; you didn't have even more people disturbing what peace remained at your hut, and your only charr relative could spend the time she wanted with you.
"Aye. Popped outta nowhere, scared the damn life out've me..."
Amica giggles, flashing her fangs, though she never in her life looked fearsome. "Must have been! I've seen warclaws-- and, well, the journeykin too, they can be...!" She swings her paws wide, making a face your grandmother made whenever she told stories. It's strange, seeing her live on like this, in someone she looked nothing like and yet is still so much like her.
You grunt, leaning back in your seat. You never quite knew how to talk to Amica, even after all this time. You especially had no clue when she was a cub, adopted in the last years of your grandmother's long, long life. She never stopped looking at you with those wide green eyes though, like you were something to be admired.
"...Well..." You glance aside. She was like looking at the sun sometimes. Bright and happy, and you were just...
"What's done is done. Jus' gotta work around the damn thing an' keep it outta trouble." There's a pause as Amica leans down to scratch the smokescale at her heel... and then giggles again.
"...Do you remember? That year for Ma's birthday," she says, "Where I tried helping you and Klara hang those garlands?"
You scoff. She was about six then, full of energy and always bouncing from person to person.
"...You were un'erfoot," you recall, "An' you kep' snaggin' yer claws on the ribbons."
Amica laughs, brightly. "Klara was so patient with me... She sat me down and distracted me long enough to show me how to tie a bow, while you and Magnús threw the rest up as quick as you could...!"
You didn't know how to deal with kids. You were never sure what they could handle at which age, and they took every little detail in, absorbing everything you said or did and taking it into themselves.
It was a miracle Amica turned out right if she ever looked up to you.
"Ah... I miss her," Amica says, a little more gently. You suppress a wince. You instead give a silent, even nod as an answer, bracing yourself for the direction this conversation was headed.
"Do you... ever talk to Mag n' Eddy?" She asks after your siblings. Your lips press into a thin line.
"...Nah," you answer.
"Anybody?" In the family you and her shared, she means.
"Nope..."
Her ears fall slightly, her brow furrowing. "...Not since Ma's funeral?" You clench your teeth, but force yourself to relax.
"Kid." A warning. "This ain't... I'll talk with ya. Jus'... not this."
Amica gives you a puzzled frown. "But why me, an' not them?"
"You know why," you snap, "I said leave it."
Amica sighs, leaning back in her chair too. She glances down to her smokescale, who looks up at her inquisitively, sensing the shift in tone. Amica's quiet for a minute, but you speak first.
"...Kid, I--"
"Amica," she insists, firmly. "I'm not a child." You still aren't good at talking to her.
"Amica." You're trying. "I know whatcher... tryin'a do. I jus'..."
Amica's watching you, with that look of concern you knew so well from your own childhood. It's almost as bad as the switch you got from your own Ma.
You look away.
"I jus' need more time ta... figure out what ta say to 'em," you lie.
Her gaze hardens ever so slightly. You feel some deep, old part of you bristle in response, but you pin that instinct down before it can bite.
"...I'm sorry," you offer her. "...Maybe this w's a damn mista--"
"No," Amica insists, "no, no. Gytha..." She crosses her arms on the table, leaning forward.
"If you need time, you need time. I won' push you to do anything you ain't ready for." You feel the tension in your body leave, and a wave of shame rolls in to replace it. "But I know that everyone's... missin' you, still. Okay? I jus' worry, is all."
"'Bout them?" You know what she means.
And she knows you know, because she doesn't answer.
You sigh. You stand. "Gonna... grab some drinks from Sig," you tell her, and leave the table.
Amica sighs too, and as you leave you hear her claws scratch through her smokescale's mane, and under her breath you can hear her say,
"Oh, Smokey... What are we gonna do with 'er?"
Your heart aches, hearing your grandmother's words leave her lips.
My mexican charr agenda is working bc Icebrood saga feels so much like a telenovela im so sorry. Everyones dying, Bangar is a classic machismo mexican father "No one wants you here cub." "Youre the one who ORDERED me here." FUCKING FUNNY !!! Theres exes, theres family dynamics, legacy, Rytlock and crecia wont stop bickering even when theyre in jail together. They keep airing each others dirty laundry (Crecia I need to know the details about Gaheron.) The charr cant stop gossiping among each other (very mexican)
I feel like I just tuned into an episode of La rosa de Guadalupe. Im only 3 chapters in.
honestly as far as gw3 goes. They put asura in that trailer which means anything can be real if i dream hard enough actually. Sneaky charr defecting from the legion pc option. largos pc option. 'gw2 wasn't actually the first time sylvari happened its just these ones are all in the ocean by gw2 times and also all these 'sylvari' were based on mustelid species and the ones that survived by gw2 have formed into whatever drove the ocean dwelling races out of the depths' pc option (bc tbf mordremoth is literally as old as tyria itself there could be multiple instances of sylvari-esques popping up). maybe the human in the trailer isn't even a player character and is just an npc who sticks around for the entire story like rytlock and the closest you can get to human pc is 'very lost norn'. i hope they give us like 9 playable races. i hope i get to make like 17 birds on accident and forget to do anything else bc what else am i supposed to do with all the bird facts i know. i hope there's dedicated animations for giving those funky new dogs skritches behind the ears.
(....actually on that note it would be interesting if the way the plot converges for different races is that you're always an outsider of some sort going /to/ orr, which a) makes more varied race options easier, and b) kinda seems like what the trailer's implying anyway tbh??)

anet really saw other mmos going 'sorry we cant possibly keep our old servers up,, its too hard, we cant do it, buy our newer 90 dollar a month subscription instead, sowwy' and said 'skill issue' huh
I really really love in game music events but the guild wars 2 metal legion concert just blows the competition out of the water for me. the fact that it's integrated into the storyline for the area with the songs being in universe propaganda is fascinating and the event itself is like hands down the best and most fun way to do an event like that I've ever experienced. you spend the whole time trying to keep the show going which means constant chaotic mini events where you do things like jump in a moshpit or stand in for backup dancers or fix the exploding equipment while all the while beating back fans swarming the performers whose parts of the song will disappear if they get knocked out. it ends with you having to destroy a giant burning metal effigy of a dragon that will sometimes just pick you up into the air and chuck you into the crowd who are all giant cat people. everyone on earth download the video game guild wars 2.
