I admit I was inspired to make this post after I saw this beautiful art by yinxelh , one of the animators of episode #1169, where Nami is trying to feed Zoro:

I'm not gonna share pics from all the feasts Nami and Zoro sit close to each other bc they are too many.

But since the beautiful art which influenced this post was during elbaf arc, I'll share a panel of the feast in Elbaf kingdom where they are indeed sitting together:

Early arcs Zoro and Nami -sometimes- act like the responsible adults compared to the rest of the crew. They are something between their reluctant parents and their babysitters. And more than anyone else they act like that towards their captain, Luffy.

Example 1:

Taking care of the small kids ( Usopp's pirates) and the big kid ( their captain Luffy)

Example 2:

On Whisky Peak, they were the only two who weren't fooled by the citizens' fake hospitality:

Luffy had them both stressed about when he entered the giant snake.

The way they complain about him and being worried at the same time reminds me of parents who deal with their mischievous child:

And it reminds me this beautiful photo from the cast of Opla where both Mackenyu and Emily are holding Iñaki's hands.

I could see their manga counterparts do the same to prevent Luffy from doing something extremely silly.

Analysing that Zoro & Nami scene on episode #1169:

Luffy had already landed safely when he heard Nami screaming while falling:

It makes sense for him to aid her and that isn't the first time Luffy helps Nami ( or any of the straw hats) with his devil fruit powers.

Luffy's outstretched hand caught Nami and he was slowly bringing her towards him and Zoro:

What happens next is surprising.

Luffy could have:

a. brought Nami to him, since he was the one who caught her while she was falling. It's not like he was busy at the moment or that he had his hands occupied.

b. Land Nami on the ground. We see him lowering Nami really slowly, so if he was to land her on the ground, he wouldn't accidentally hurt her.

But instead, he landed her on Zoro's arms

Which leads me to the headcanon that Luffy is the biggest Zonami shipper among the Straw Hats.

This is Luffy's mind when it comes to Zoro & Nami:

Hail to Luffy captain not only of the Straw Hats but also the Zonami ship!!

Luffy is literally me. I am Luffy.

The Captain knows his oldest crewmates better than anyone, and I'm convinced he knows exactly what he's doing. There is no safer place for Nami than in Zoro's arms. And my shy boy... the way he treats her so gently, lingering for a few extra seconds before setting her down, just to make sure she's really okay. Even then, he's so careful, so soft, so gentle with her.

Ahhhh, my heart. 🧡💚

One of the things I love most about Nami is how deeply inspiring she is for girls and young women. Her strength has never been about being the strongest fighter in the room, it's about her resilience, intelligence, kindness, courage, and determination to keep moving forward no matter what life throws at her. I think both Fan Letter and Heroines capture this beautifully. In both stories, you can see how Nami's confidence, compassion, and independence leave a lasting impression on other girls. She isn't just admired because she's a member of the Straw Hats, she inspires others to believe in themselves, chase their dreams, and find their own strength.

And then there's her friendship with Robin, which Heroines highlights so wonderfully. Their bond is so refreshing because it's built on mutual respect, trust, and quiet understanding. They support each other without competition, celebrate each other's strengths, and create a space where they can simply be themselves. It's one of my favorite female friendships in One Piece because it feels so genuine and comforting. Nami isn't just an amazing character, she's a reminder that intelligence, empathy, and perseverance are forms of strength too. And together, Nami and Robin show how powerful it is when women lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. That's the kind of representation I'll always appreciate. 🧡💜
