Hi there! I hope you don't mind if I ask one question I had, but I was wondering if you could describe Jack/Orange Man's personality. I really love the characters in the Dayshift series, and he's probably one of the most difficult to understand for me. I wondered what your thoughts were on who he generally is as a person. (Also thank you so much for seeing this series through to the end despite the stresses. The DSaF series brought me a lot of happiness!)
Jack’s actions can vary from route to route, and you also might’ve noticed that Jack isn’t always… himself, on LEGACY routes. But, certain traits do always carry over.Firstly, Jack is a bastardman not very touchy-feely. We can see this in many scenes, where Dave more or less says “I love you” and Jack responds with deflecting humour, or outright scorn. When Dave says it for the final time, this time, Jack tries to say it back, but can’t outright, only getting out: “Why is this so hard?” and “I hope you can find peace with what you’ve done.” Which Dave understood the meaning of. (Hey, better than Henry (LEGACY Jack) hearing “I love you” and proceeding to tear Dave limb from limb, huh? It’s also funny, because Jack threatens to do that in the good ending (foreshadowing ftw))Jack is headstrong, canonically traveling from location to location on his mission of killing or saving kids. He’s childish, with most of his activities being gratuitously stupid or strange. This is largely bc he died before he could hit actual adult maturity. Ironically, his kid sister ended up the more mature out of the two, since she ended up with such a large mantle. Jack loves dogs and there’s a ton of small dialogue references to Jack’s connection with dogs in every DSaF game, to the point that his soul appears as a dog, because it’s the last family member he saw or embraced before his death. Finally, Jack is incredibly self-loathing and frustrated, seeing his own life as a curse, to an extent. While “good” Jack makes the most of it, evil Jack allies with Henry, and goes as far as killing Fredbear, who gave Jack the “gift” to begin with. A fitting gesture, I s’pose.
