“Excuse me, do y-you know what th-these are?” Alice asked, pointing to the tray that sat on a table, “They look really nice b-but I’m w-worried that it’s like… liver or something. Ev-Everything is so fancy,” she said, laughing.

'Judging by the smell it could be something with shellfish, maybe a crab puff?” Fran suggested. She had eaten many weird things back in the day when she was still welcomed at her parents’ house. “I usually stick to canapés, they’re the safest during events like those when you also have a drink.”

"We could drink to all of those,” Francesca replied, slowly sipping her champagne. “Oh, also we should toast to all the friends we have made this year. And other ones too I suppose, although they should be toasting to us since we’re so wonderful,” she grinned.

“Just when I think I’ve heard all the stupid that someone can possibly say, people surprise me yet again. I’d be impressed if it wasn’t so embarrassing.” Everleigh deadpanned, actually looking forward to throwing herself into paperwork she was currently cradling. At least then she could put some music on and block out the boneheads. 

"I found that around holidays people somehow become more stupid. Perhaps their brains are just so exhausted that they turn off before their actual time off and nothing else is able to control what comes out of their mouths,” Francesca commented. She wasn’t particularly surprised by what she heard, but she stopped having high expectations a long time ago.

Olivia sensed the shadow over her textbooks before catching sight of the hand on the back of the vacant chair opposite her, she held up one of her fingers before they even opened their mouth, eyes still focused on the words in front of her. “One, no you can’t sit there because I need the space for studying. Two, this isn’t the only free available chair left because I know for a fact there is several at the front of the cafe with other people who are probably way more sociable than me.” She spoke, eyes finally meeting the others. “And three if you really want the space that badly the price is a large tea and a blueberry muffin.” She finished.

"I was actually just trying to move the chair so that the lady with a pram could pass, but alrighty then, I get it, no touchy,” Francesca replied, slightly taken aback by the other’s words. “I’m going to pass on this lovely invitation since, as you’ve just pointed it out yourself, there are surely more sociable people around here.”

“Of course, yeah,” she nodded upon recognizing the other. Alessandra tucked away the tube of lipgloss she had in hand and moved to Francesca’s zipper. “This thing isn’t jammed is it? There’s so much fabric,” she muttered as she tried to get the zipper to budge.

"Honestly? I’ve got no clue. I managed to zip and unzip it just fine the first time I tried it, but tonight it just seems to want me stay inside it forever,” she complained. Francesca was trying really hard to keep it together, but with each passing moment she was getting more and more desperate.

“Now that’s an expression.” Nathaniel uttered from where he was stood, taking in the fresh air and the somewhat calmer atmosphere that stepping away from the activities had allowed. He could still hear the laughter and screams from the haunted house he’d taken up residence beside however. “I can’t work out if you’re enjoying yourself or not.” He stated, sipping down some more of his beer.

"I’d be very impressed if you actually saw through my costume,” Fran replied, smiling softly. “Let’s just say I needed a breather from all of that,” she motioned at the group of partying people. “I’m guessing you’re in a similar position?”

Alessandra was seemingly too preoccupied with fixing her hair and touching up her makeup in the reflection to notice as someone approached. They didn’t initially say anything and so even though she saw them in the mirror’s reflection she didn’t either, taking her time until she was satisfied. “Can I help you?” Alessandra finally spoke up. “Or do you like to make a habit out of standing idly like that?”

"Actually I do need your help,” Frannie almost whined. She really needed to use the bathroom, but her costume was not cooperating. “I’m stuck and the zipper doesn’t want to move an inch. Can you give it a try?” She asked hopefully.

“Yeah, I know, I’m practically unrecognisable with this hair,” Alastair replied, pointing to his now silvery locks, “Don’t let it be said that Alastair Watson doesn’t go all out for Halloween. I mean, it’s not nearly as elaborate as my Iron Man costume but it’s pretty good right?”

"Are you going to keep the hair if enough people compliments you on it?” Fran teased, smiling broadly even though her expression was hidden by her costume. “Iron Man was great, that’s true, but I gotta say I wasn’t surprised by the choice. Now it’s something different,” she added.

“How did you even find this place?” Jia asked, looking around with an enormous grin on her face. They were only supposed to pop for a quick meal and somehow they found themselves in a karaoke bar. They still had some time before they needed to go back to Fran’s and she wanted to enjoy it to the fullest.

"Honestly? No bloody clue,” Fran chuckled. “One thing led to another and somehow here we are. I’m not complaining though and, clearly, neither are you,” she pointed out with a grin. Jia looked so happy so she wanted to stay there as long as she possibly could.

“He looks like a slice of white bread,” Astrid said flatly. “No defining features and like he’d probably talk about stocks or something on a first date. You deserve someone who at least has an upper lip.”

Francesca couldn’t help but snort at the comment. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard something like that,” she admitted, still smiling. “But if he does know a thing or two about stocks, then maybe he also knows in what to invest. I’ve met far worse people.”

Francesca beamed at the other, pleased that she liked the newly created arrangement. “Why thank you, I’m glad you like it,” she exclaimed. She had worked hard on it, planning took several hours and then the whole creation also took a long time. “I haven’t really thought of price yet, but similar ones cost about six galleons.”
