Tumblr is now owned by a phone company, so it's stopped fighting for Network Neutrality
Yahoo’s sale to Verizon means that Yahoo’s sub-companies – Flickr, Tumblr and a host of others – are now divisions of a phone company, and as you might expect, being on the payroll of a notorious neutracidal maniac with a long history of sleazy, invasive, privacy-destroying, monopolistic, deceptive, anti-competitive, scumbag shakedowns has changed the public positions these companies are allowed to take.
This matters a lot. The previous fights for net neutrality were won in part with the support of scrappy online companies like Tumblr, whose CEO, staff and users worked together to send a strong message to Congress and the FCC about the importance of a neutral internet, free from ISPs who slow down your connections to services unless they pay bribes for “premium” carriage.
With Trump’s FCC set to slay Net Neutality, the internet is once again planning a day of coordinated action: on July 12, sites across the net will send their users to the FCC and Congress to demand that ISPs be held to a public service standard befitting the trillions of dollars in public subsidies they receive every year in the form of access to rights of way through our cities and between them.
However, Tumblr is not among the companies presently slated to participate, and sources within the company told The Verge that the company and its CEO, David Karp (once a staunch Net Neutrality campaigner) have been given orders to sit this one out.

Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek’s Flying Cats.
Thankfully photographer Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek decided to come up with this series of absolute brilliance wherein he photographs cats mid-flight, making all the things in life much better for any viewer happening across them. (The cat’s names are Elli, Flitzie, Nevio and Fiffy)

Here is a diagram of the utilization of the ltc-1799 in the Kawasaki keyboard/drumpad. There are two clocks being controlled by one ltc-1799 and a 500k pot differentiated by two toggle switches. Hurray!
anyone who claims to actually enjoy theremin music is lying to you
i find them cool on a conceptual level cuz u dont have to even touch the instrument to play it but like…. it doesnt sound that great. at best its used as part of an arrangement. or heavily edited in a song w/ a lot of other elements
theoretically the mechanism of a theremin shouldn’t be limited to the default signal generator… you should be able to hook up the theremin apparatus to an arbitrary signal generator, or a sample array.
unfortunately people who work with them are too married to the tone that’s produced from the native variable LRC signal generator, and it’s stunted the growth of the instrument.
but, like… you could easily design a signal generator that made every theremin note sound like, idk, a trumpet. (whether that was accomplished via a clever circuit or via a sample would depend on your patience for staring at waveforms and making clever circuits.) except it would have infinite microtones, and you’d be playing it like you play a theremin.
the “sensing” portion of the theremin just relies on the variable capacitance formed between you and the antennae. you can hook an LRC circuit with a variable C up to anything.
the sound shouldn’t be what people know the theremin for, because it’s arbitrary. unfortunately, it is.
that’s fascinating i had no idea.
that actually would be a little more removed than a regular theremin tho because the sound of a regular theremin isnt an arbitrary oscillator thats hooked up to the capacitance sensor, the capacitance sensor is producing a varying radio frequency oscillation that gets played against a constant frequency and the difference tone between the two is directly the audio. plus lots of theremins have CV out and theres plenty of people on youtube playing different synths with them. i worked with a professor who did these big crazy sound installations with like giant copper coils hooked up like theremin antennae and then just the most elaborate analog patches and it would make all these wild sounds in response to people just walking through the room
This is the theremin you want if you don't like the theremin sound but want the same control! Midi controllable, software editing, ipad app. http://www.moogmusic.com/products/etherwave-theremins/theremini
