HEAR ME OUT ON THIS JOSHUA’S HEADCANON / AU / OR WHATEVER I’VE CREATED
Recently, I came across a fun fact about St. Christopher and his depiction in eastern icons. Turns out, this man was the real og christian furry, but that’s not exactly what I wanted to talk about here. The interesting thing is, how a small misinterpretation led to a total twist of his portrayal. Saint Christopher was, supposedly, a Canaanite, which in Latin is Cananeus. I already know from history how some silly mistranslations can create something new. And that’s how Cananeus got turned into Canineus - canine. People there really didn’t see any problem with that, painting such a delightful dog-headed saint.
(EDIT: The story of St. Christopher is more complex than I thought, but I still wanted to focus on the mistranslation concept)
That’s the end of rambling about St. Christopher, cause I still haven’t said anything about my beloved centerpiece. You know who, ‘theoretically’, comes from Canaan?
Alright, alright. I know it’s just a single minor connection between these two, but the gears in my head have already started working, and that’s how I created THIS:
How about putting the iconography story into the Fallout universe? Imagine a scenario: since White Legs were under Legion’s influence (Ulysses trained them), they may know a bit of Latin. Caesar was also desperate to convince them further into destroying Joshua’s family town; New Canaan. So, how could he add fuel into the fire? How about a rumor of it being a dog city, New Canine or something, a birthplace to devil’s filthy creatures, werewolves? Sure, those were just mormons, but you know how manipulation can mess with people's heads.
This rumor would also motivate White Legs into hating Joshua Graham even more. Kuna-man could be the new myth of Zion Park, a 'cryptid' (wink-wink towards Dust mod) that was haunting its fertile ground and a beast that deserved to be slaughtered.
I’m aware it’s a wild take and maybe deserves to be written better. I just wanted to share it with you guys, since this place is the best to appreciate such ideas :) Also planning on developing it further, maybe even a ff if I feel better at writing.
