The Inconvenient Truth Of Lindsey Way
I'm writing this as sort of a counter argument to the "debunking" opinion piece. I'm not going to pretend Lindsey doesn't face misogyny or that she didn't get backlash that should have been aimed at Jimmy. I'm just here to give my perspective because I didn't find anything in that post particularly compelling. and think it's strange how everyone is taking it as gospel.
there's no debunking, and no counter evidence. nothing other than them saying "I don't like this objective fact about Lindsey, therefore it's not true", putting words in her mouth, and what-aboutism arguments. they're not saying this stuff didn't happen, they're saying people should shut up about it.
yes, Lindsay is subject to double standards. but that doesn't mean she didn't say and do the things she's disliked for. and I also think it's important to point out that the people most affected by Lindsay's casual cruelty are people of color and sexual assault survivors. two demographics this fandom has proven that they do not care about.
someone else already made a thread documenting why people don't like Lindsey. it actually provides recipts and isn't rooted in misogyny. go read that instead of a blog thet puts words in Lindsey's mouth and has an excuse for everything.

I feel like there's no point going through each and every little thing from that opinion piece. mostly because I don't see a lot of people pointing at Lindsey's family drama as to why they dislike her. and I honestly do not care about whatever relationship she has with her sister. that's none of our business.
I've been a fan of mcr for a long time and for the most part I've been indifferent to Lindsey. I found her to be a try hard, and thought her feminism was white and toothless, but didn't really pay attention to her. I didn't buy the contradicting excuses for mindless self indulgence's lyrics that uphold rape culture, sprinkle in racist slurs, and punch down at minorities "as a joke", or as political comintary, or whatever faux intellectual justification they and their fans make depending on what is most convenient.
so finding out that Lindsey (a self-proclaimed feminist) went out of her way to not only defend one of their more misogynistic songs, but to make that now infamous"consider the source" tweet, I was disappointed, but not surprised. disappointed in the hypocrisy of someone who said she wanted to be a role model to young girls. disappointed in a woman who said she would stand by any victim that came forward, but remained silent when the time came. and disappointed as a survivor who wanted to root for and like Lindsey.
but if somebody says to consider the source when asked about their bandmate being sexually inappropriate with underage girls, that person is victim blaming and upholding rape culture. that doesn't become untrue because you like that person's spouse. claiming that because Lindsey wasn't talking about specific accusations, so therefore this was debunked is also victim blaming and misogyny.
Lindsey knew what Jimmy was doing. she was in the band when they did the kissing booth, and when Jimmy (and sometimes Steve) would behave the way he did with young girls at all ages shows. she knew and didn't care. we can what-about- Gerard and argue semantics, but that debunks nothing.
It's incredibly insensitive and misogynistic to survivors to compare Mikey being in a consensual (while taboo) relationship with a 19 year old to Jimmy sexually abusing a child and his predatory stage behavior. I completely understand feeling uncomfortable with Mikey's past relationships's age gape, but Sarah was a consenting adult. it feels like the only time mcr fans care about misogyny is when they can use it as a weapon to defend Lindsey from criticism.
if you did actually care about misogyny you wouldn't have made this comparison in the first place. and you would have put more energy into condemning Jimmy instead of making what-aboutism arguments that downplay his behavior.
What you did instead was make an excuse for a predator because he's closely associated with Lindsey because it might make her look bad by association.
I also want to talk about the excuses often used to defend Lindsey. particularly the way she is almost exclusively talked about as the wife of Gerard and the mother of their child.
Even Lindsey has said that she is not an extension of her husband. and yet, those who make it their job to defend her have put her in that box. Lindsey is her own person outside of her marriage. she does not exist simply to stand next to Gerard as content fodder. and that's what her own fans have reduced her to.
and if your counter argument is "she's no more problematic than anyone in mcr" my answer is:
Lindsey is not a member of My Chemical Romance
maybe you should be more critical of the band members
nobody in mcr defended a known predator
I just find it incredibly hypocritical how misogyny is used to dismiss any and all criticism of Lindsey, while in the same breath claim it's coming from jealous fangirls who want Gerard for themselves. if it were all misogyny and jealousy, the other wives would be experiencing the same kind of treatment.
I don't dislike Lindsey out of envy or jealousy. I dislike her for the things she has said and done. I'm a queer woman who is not attracted to Gerard. it's ironic to me that a fanbase of mostly queer people would nod along with this excuse without thinking.
and to answer the question of "if Lindsey is such a bad person wouldn't that make Gerard complicit?" Yes, but none of you are ready for that conversation.
