they should've had sam making more jokes about his and dean's negligible age gap "are your knees okay" after digging up a grave. i'm sure i'm not about to say anything original, but i have some thoughts about how to improve 15x10. the universal hate is warranted imo but i still think the concept is pretty cool, it's just what was attributed to chuck's intervention that sucked. thing is, sam and dean do have plot armour; most protagonists do. the whole meta theme of season 15 makes it the perfect stage to address this within fiction. what i can't begin to understand is why the writers decided to attribute their humanly attainable competence to chuck, instead of zeroing in on the things that actually exist outside of them, i.e. their being the main characters of earth and being kept alive through convoluted means time and time again. i'd like to consider plot armour specifically, though: what if that was simply taken away? chuck can't reverse the abilities he led to them acquiring, can't change the narrative he's written thus far in which they're the mcs, but he can stop covering for them. volleys of bullets don't just happen to miss them, horrific wounds become infected, bones break when they're tossed around, they're forced to spend downtime resting and healing. and, if you wanted to stick to dean (only) dying in the finale, why not have these accumulated stresses be what kills him? as skilled as they are, their lifestyle is brutal. they go through even more than the average hunter, whose life expectancy should already be abysmal, and this could be shown through increasing strain on their bodies. they're covered in bruises and scars, limping in a way that might not recover, fingers cramping and toes becoming blistered, early onset arthritis and chronic illness racking their exhausted bodies. and, in the end, dean's body just gives out, or the next hunt finishes him off. and sam is too mentally drained to continue without him and physically incapable anyway. and we, the audience, get to see a physical show of their sacrifice; we get to appreciate how they broke down (mentally and physically) over time, and understand the cost of (their) heroism so that we can appreciate it all the more.
