BREAKING: willow smith loves girlpool
Loud Places by Jamie xx
Last week, the xx’s Jamie Smith dropped this track featuring bandmate Romy Madley-Croft. Smith is releasing his debut LP in June and it’s also set to feature Four Tet, Young Thung, and third xx member Oliver Sim.
December 28th by Caveman
Because, you know, it's today.
Wolf by Marika Hackman
British singer-songwriter Marika Hackman released her EP, Sugar Blind, this month. This is my favorite song off of it and you can stream the EP in full here.
Back O'er Oregon (in 185 State Parks)
A friend just sent me this super cool music video by The Weather Machine. The Portland folk band released their debut self-titled album last April. This video was uploaded by SoulPancake, Rainn Wilson's media company.
Savage by Ben Khan
A lot of people compare 21-year-old London musician Ben Khan to Jai Paul. I get the similarities: R&B-inspired beats and a lot of dark synths. But, Khan's latest track is a little more experimental and a lot funkier. He's pretty elusive as he only started posting music 4 months ago, but his Soundcloud already has almost 500,000 plays. Check out his two other songs here.
december, 2013 (o holy night!)
Here’s 50 of my favorite holiday-themed tracks to help you get through this month. Feel free to follow me on Spotify for more playlists.
Don't Hang Around by The Death of Pop
Lately, I've been listening to The Death of Pop's first EP Hang that was released earlier this year. Aside from having an awesome band name, they have a cool sound that they describe as "janglegaze" on their Soundcloud. This track kind of sounds like if WU LYF and The Feelies had a baby.
Time Will Tell by Blood Orange
This is one of my favorites off of the latest Blood Orange LP, Cupid Deluxe. I've been following Dev Hynes' career since he was known as Lightspeed Champion, and I think he's writing and producing some of the best music right now. He produced and co-wrote Solange's True EP last year as well as Sky Ferreira's single "Everything is Embarrassing."
Modern Love by David Bowie
I rewatched Frances Ha recently and was reminded of how great this song is.
Will Calls (Diplo Remix) by Grizzly Bear
To celebrate the one year anniversary of the release of their album Shields, Grizzly Bear released a bunch of demos and B-sides, one of which was a track called "Will Calls." You can download this remix for free here.
I saw Beach Fossils open for Kurt Vile at Club Downunder 2 weeks ago and it was super cool.
Carry Me by Bombay Bicycle Club
This is BBC's first single off their fourth studio album, which will be released next year.
Here's Devendra Banhart's music video for "Für Hildegard von Bingen", off his latest LP Mala.
Nightchain (Wale x Kavinsky) by The Hood Internet Chicago-based duo The Hood Internet mashed up Kavinsky's Nightcall and Wale's Chain Music. You can find more mashups on their Soundcloud here.
I wrote this piece on Lou Reed for a friend's online zine, Popculturepuke.
