Squirrels were feeling shy, but birdies picked up the slack. And some sunflower seeds while they were at it :)

Eurasian nuthatch looks at walnut as if it's seriously considering it.

I shall sing you...

...the SONG OF MY PEOPLE!

A rare great tit that managed to stay near seeds long enough for me to snap a photo, a second later it was chased away by nuthatches just like others before it.

Eventually a squirrel came close enough for an ok(-ish) photo.

Met two squirrels. One was more brown and preferred to sit back and eat the nut she'd dug up from a stash.

While the other one was more red and kept running back and forth trying to hide as many nuts as she could get.

I get the feeling that Brownie saw all of Red's hiding places from her vantage point while she ate.

Of course two squirrels existing withing several meters of each other inevitably lead to wild chases up and down around a tree. Even if only for a little bit, walnuts were more important that day.

And finally Brownie decided to get some fresh nuts too.

Whenever a squirrel squares up to me like that, I feel like I'm about to get my ass handed to me. Luckily that walnut was still more important.

Even after the leaves are gone I find it hard to see squirrels if they don't move. Luckily walnuts can't be eaten quietly, so I know when to carefully look around for a squirrel having a lunch.

Sometimes I wonder how something so cute and cuddly

also gets to have such creepy bony fingers.

Sure, I understand it makes sense that fingers for climbing won't be short and soft, but I still get caught off guard when I get a good look. They kinda remind me how hands of werewolves are sometimes depicted in films.

The second squirrel hid her nut nearby and came back for seconds, while the first one just sat in a tree above us and ate her catch.

Squirrel dropped her walnut and, luckily for me, she took ages going back and forth before she finally grabbed it.

She then proceeded to climb up that tree, jump to the next one and climb down before running up a hill, probably looking for a spot to hide the nut. What a bizarre route, she traveled 15 meters to get 5 meters further from me.

I wonder if that crow found a squirrel's stash. Possibly even made by squirrel I met earlier.

Cat and old worn wood. There's something very pleasing about that combo.

Last time I mentioned that it's too late to see bees any more. Well look who came out to make me a liar!

I think there was also a small bumblebee, but it escaped before I could snap a photo.

This little cross spider clearly needs a snack.

This big guy however must be getting all the snacks!

Oh, in fact he's getting one right now.

Is this cat pretending not to notice me? 🙄

Hover flies are once again proving that they're just built different. Not a bee in sight in this cool weather, but give it a couple sunny days and these guys are all over the remaining flowers.

And of course kitties are taking advantage of the sun too /ᐠ - ˕ -マ Ⳋ

Last sunny day and spiderweb is gleaming.

And as clouds rolled in I guess it got harder for bees to spot the danger in the dark.

And so they became snacks.

I think it's a bee that this cross spider is chomping, but it's hard to tell with web all over it. At first I thought it was a wasp because of yellow lines, but it looks like that's actually pollen.

And then this time as I was painstakingly searching for tiny spiders I turned around to find that this big-ass cross spider was sitting behind my back in plain view the entire time.

Fun fact: cross spiders are orb-weavers and ever since I first heard of orb-weaver spiders I though it meant that they weave orbs, you know something SPHERICAL. Turns out "orb" in English language also means simply circular! Like a generic spiderweb!

I kinda feel lied to after imagining fancy Australian spiders that create cool spherical nests.

If I take my time and look really carefully I sometimes find these tiny crab spiders laying in wait on/in/under flowers.

I'm no entomologist but this one looks like Ebrechtella tricuspidata.

Saw this bee walking around in the middle of alley. It was an interesting encounter. Usually when I find a walking bee they seem to be weakly stumbling around or even visibly injured and if I try to move them to a safer spot they shy away from me.

This one immediately crawled onto my fingertip and as soon as I stood up to carry her to a nearby flowerbed she spread her wings and flew off.

She could've at least stayed for a photo on my finger :(

Found some wasps on these flowers - one was an ordinary paper wasp but the other was way bigger and fuzzy.
