After the hit his team took on the low level gang, Zeus knew that some heads might turn. It had been a month, and everything was quiet. In this case it was a good thing, because nobody was suppose to know that six shots had went on another job. For a moment Zeus thought he was in the clear, but then he got a call from Scott. It wasn’t time for his monthly dues, so it definitely made him curious as to why he was arriving at an unfamiliar location in west Illinois. When he pulled up his former mentor was standing beside the hood of his car, smoking a cigarette.
“Wassup, Scott?” Zeus spoke when he came around to the front of his car. “I thought I’d get a thank you card once you were out of jail.” Scott flicked his tobacco stick away, and blew out the smoke. “Why you got me out here?” Zeus wasn’t in the mood for the mind games the older Italian man wanted to play. It was bad enough he was paying off the debt he acquired from getting Scott’s help to get him out of jail, and that only postponed his retirement from the street life.
“A little friend of mine told me a gang was executed a particular way that somebody I know likes to take out people, and for a second I thought it couldn’t be Head Hunter and his crew, because they’re out of business. Then I did some digging, and found the connection. You know having friends in the spotlight put you at risk.” He smiled devilishly, and it poked at the monster inside of Zeus that Scott had created. “But since the crew is bac-”
“We’re not.” Zeus cut him off before he could continue. There was no way he was going to put the people he loved back in harm’s way for this man. He promised them after the last job he sent them into that they wouldn’t ever do a job for him again.
“It’s not a request.” Scott wasn’t going to be disobeyed, and Zeus knew that. However, the male had more to live for these days and couldn’t let him get in the way of that anymore.
“It can be whatever you want it to be, but we’re not your pets anymore.” Zeus stood his ground, and wasn’t going to budge. Scott saw it in his eyes, and only smiled. He knew the day would come when the student tried the teacher, and Scott knew exactly what needed to be done. All he did was nod before getting in his car and pulling off.
Zeus knew that it wasn’t over, and had to warn his crew.
