Final Fantasy IX Week - Day 2 - Favourite scene - Attack on Alexandria

I don’t know if this counts as just one scene but the whole attack on Alexandria is fantastic. On a cinematic level you’ve got Bahamut laying down some epic destruction, the castle going all transformers and turning into the eidolon Alexander and Zidane’s heroic rescue.

You also get to experience a lot of emotion from the characters. Dagger’s utter disbelief that things could get even worse than they already are is harrowing. Steiner going into a trance state (which we know to be an extreme rush of emotion) from his raw urge to protect Beatrix is beautiful and clears up a lot of misconceptions about his earlier stubbornness. He has a strong sense of loyalty and just wants to protect those he cares about. It can’t have been easy to allow himself to doubt Brahne’s actions when he has served as her knight for many years.

An important event and a real turning point for the game’s plot!
