I’ve been in a bit of a stand-still in terms of what I wanna do with my own art and my art style, and then I figured out at least a direction to start going in, and that’s getting more of a better understanding of figures and how they’re built with basic shapes. And overall just looking into a little more as to how the overall shapes, and the building shapes define a character and the character’s figure. And I think Steven Universe has one of the best examples of this in terms of character design with really nice silhouettes and diverse figures. So I took some notes on some of the characters, studied their figure and looked more into the shapes that build their bodies, after I’m done I’ll start applying these things more to my own style and the design of characters!

Random Pigeon Facts

• Pigeons are communal bathers, they bathe together to help keep watch. Safety in numbers!

• They are true democrats, they’ll vote on where to go when flying together and even a new flock leader.

• They happily accept all into their flock.

• The pigeons you see in cities are called feral because they are domesticated descendants of wild rock doves who live in mountains, that’s why you see so many colors and varieties!

• Pigeons are the only birds to use suction to drink instead of gravity.

• They’re powerful flyers, breeds bred for racing have been known to hit up to 100 miles per hour (or 161 KM)

• It’s speculated that we’ve been living along side pigeons as far back as 10,000 BC!

• Pigeons are very intelligent, they have incredible cognitive and recognition abilities, they’re just as smart as corvids.

• Rock doves have natural powerful navigation abilities, they can be released from 100s of miles away from their home in an unfamiliar area and find their way back. Homing or racing pigeons are specially bred for this ability and speed, they’re bred in national and international competitions, some flying thousands of miles to get home!

• They mate for life and will do anything for a mate they fall in love with. Pigeons with disabled mates will stay with their mate even if they can’t fly and will choose a nesting spot their mate can get to safely.

• Pigeons will remember who’s kind and who’s mean to them similar to the way corvids do, they’ll go out of their way to avoid you and poop on you if you’re a jerk- be nice to your local pigeons and they’ll reward you by trusting you :)
