My only gripe with that series was how internally fatphobic the show was towards maw.rio. Always making jokes about how hungry he was and the food he wanted, as well as poking at his weight. It's very outdated for sure. But I do enjoy that show a lot. Him being hungry was super cute, I sorta wish they brought that trait back but tone it down.

lu.ig.i hunger and general tummy headcanons

MINORS DNI

unlike his bro, lu.i.gi is rather shy about his stomach and gets very embarrassed when it complains. while its not as aggressive to announce its hunger as ma.r.i.o's, its nearly always gurgling and sloshing away. its not helped by the fact that lu.ig.i tends to drink a lot, so hes almost always got some amount of liquid in there.

lu.ig.i might not have as much room as m.a.rio, but he can still eat a fair amount, more then some may assume.

while hes shy i can see him referring to his stomach as his 'tummy'.

sometimes avoids eating when hes feeling sick, resulting in a empty stomach.

l.ui.gi gets hangry after enough time, his patience disappears, he gets snappy. he always feels really bad about it after.

when ma.r.io is hungry its hard to not be aware of the fact, as his guts will roar like a wild animal until its fed. with l.ui.gi however, you might not notice for a long time until a sudden long, drown out growl escapes, less loud then what his bro is capable of but super awkward and no less hard to ignore.

i dont think hes normally very shy about his stomach or his appetite. but there are times he may get caught off guard by a particularly loud and ill-placed growl, often when in front of more 'formal' company (like pe.ach for instance). he will turn nearly as red as his hat and apologize while trying to politely muffle its demands. i think pe.a.ch finds this rather cute and always tells him not to worry about it. he works so hard after all.

generally pretty casual about his hunger and belly, will usually just place a hand over it to sooth it, pat or chuckle at himself in amusement. often jokes about his appetite and talk back to his stomach. its a rather common occurrence so it does not phase him, and he usually makes light of it.

there are times it can get on his nerves, when hes on an important mission for instance. as much as he loves to eat, and usually keeps himself well fed, when action demands a hero, everything else gets thrown to the wayside. his friends are in danger? who cares if hes hungry, who cares how longs its been sense his last meal. nothing else matters. it can get pretty bad, how he neglects himself, surviving off of quick fix healing items, never resting until his loved ones are safe and sound. he will deny his needs to a stubborn degree as his friends try and fret over him while he looks ready to fall to the floor in exhaustion.

i can imagine lu.ig.i has mistaken m.ar.io's growling stomach for a koopa or monster at least a few times.

i have seen the headcanon that using power ups speeds up his metabolism and i love that idea. maybe depending on the power up used, is how hungry he gets? so fun and so very inconvenient while trying to save the princess or fight bad guys...
