Squirrelflight’s Hope and The Broken Code really made me want to design the Bramblesquirrel family!

I tried to do something interesting with Bramblestar since “brown tabby” is super boring but really nothing besides just plain brown looked good on him. I gave him sort of a reddish hue but idk if that actually comes across well. Squirrelflight has a snaggletooth! And very round ears! Hollyleaf gets red eyeshadow because I see people give Scourge that and I thought Holly would also look really cool with it

went on a dead person’s twitter and i guess they had that horoscope app installed that automatically tweets your horoscope for you at set intervals because after their final tweet there’s just pages upon pages, years worth of these horoscope tweets droning on in silence. it’s really dark in a way i can’t properly articulate, like a phone receiver off-hook tone echoing through an empty house.

All y’all sleeping on Kipo make me so mad.

I see so many people out here stanning for Steven Universe, or hell the Dragon Prince and Voltron.

But Kipo?? The show with two Black girl leads, one of them who’s mixed race with Asian?? With a flat out, out and out gay Black character?? Kipo the show that has a musical number throughout every show???

I ain’t seen zip about it on my dash. Maybe I’m following the wrong blogs, but damn, where is the ran art? Where is the fanfic?? Where is the Discourse around Kipo????

C’mon y’all, engage with this like you would do with any show that had non-Black characters.

It's been out for ten days and doesn't have well-known showrunners (like the examples you listed) so that's probably partially why... but yeah, I hadn’t heard of it at all before this. It makes me suspicious that Netflix was secretly burying it, like they do other shows that feature non-white and gay characters and AREN’T run by creators who are guaranteed to bring in the viewers in HUGE amounts. this was gonna be a tutorial and i guess it still is but if anything it’s just a really long and drawn out “essay” on drawing people with epicanthic folds. one of my biggest pet peeves is people drawing asian people exclusively with the same type of eye they’d give white people or anyone else who typically doesn’t have the fold! however i know that most people are taught with the standard white person eye (google image search for “eye” and it’ll all be pictures of white people’s eyes) so learning to draw epicanthic folds is a consciously learned thing.

therefore i bring you this, which attempts to break the mechanics of epicanthic folds down into something that’s a bit easier to digest and implement in your own art!

style can be argued i guess but it’s not that hard to stylize eyes with folds if you do proper observation and research. eyes with epicanthic folds are as diverse as eyes without so it’s not like you have to adhere to a strict model for them (although many people think that you have to) and all it takes to distinguish the two in stylized art (and even in semi/realism once you think about it) is a few lines! like i said this is a learned process but it’ll make your asian characters (and characters of other races even) a bit more interesting and believable.
