some say thy fault is youth, some wantonness, some say thy grace is youth and gentle sport; both grace and faults are loved of more and less; thou mak’st faults graces that to thee resort. as on the finger of a thronèd queen, the basest jewel will be well esteemed, so are those errors that in thee are seen. to truths translated, and for true things deemed.
on cool misty morning’s like this one she could be found sitting out by the pond. the dew crept at the hem of her dress. she’d forgotten her gloves so her fingers numb. listening to the trees rustle in the breeze she looked out over the glistening water which reflected the gray sky. vivian would never dare admit her melancholy to her family, so in the moments of silence outside of the house she could let the facade of her smile fall.
the outdoors had always spoken to freddie. they were his first friend in childhood, as he had spent much more time playing in the woods near the old valence family home than he had indoors studying. this morning, he had not been able to fight the urge to explore the grounds a bit, though he had made sure to bundle up, as it was quite cold outside. as he approached the pond, he noticed a young woman sitting by it. it surprised him, given the weather and the time. “are you alright, miss?” he asked, wondering for a moment if perhaps something had happened to cause her distress.
“pardon me, i saw a bird hit the window and i wanted to see if it was alright. do you mind if i step into the garden?”
when he had first spotted the blonde woman near the valence house, freddie had been a little surprised. after all, as far as he knew, they weren’t expecting any company today. however, at her mention of an injured bird, freddie couldn’t help but feel concerned. “not at all,” he told her, shaking his head. “if the poor creature is hurt, someone must help it.” freddie had never liked seeing anything in pain; if he could help the bird recover and carry on, that would certainly put him more at ease. “right this way, miss-?” he found himself at a loss for her name, though he felt sure he had seen her in town before.

frederick valence was born right in the middle of the five valence siblings, though he’s never minded it. due to the wide age gap between him and matty, freddie was the youngest for quite some time. he got his fill of being the center of attention, and though he’s never shied away from the spotlight, he was fine with letting someone else have a turn once matty and louise came along.
he wasn’t as serious as his eldest brother, nor was he as wild as william. freddie was his own creature - a boy full of kindness, with a love for adventure and the outdoors. he could be a bit mischievous and got into some trouble, but due to his innocent and sweet nature, most just laughed it off. he loved playing outside, and constantly came home with rips and grass stains on his clothes.
he did alright in school, though again, he coasted a lot of his natural charisma. the tutor who instructed the older valence boys let him get away with more than he probably should have, honestly.
he was quite close with his mother as a child, and when she passed, freddie was devastated. but, instead of letting the pain swallow him, freddie stepped up and tried to be there for the rest of his family. he had always had a large heart, and even though it was broken by his mother’s death, he wanted to comfort his siblings as much as they would allow him to, even if it was unbecoming to be the emotional one of the family.
while he did go away to university, freddie returned home very soon after graduating. before the valence’s moved, freddie had his own flat and worked for his father. he made sure to visit his family regularly, though.
a few years ago, he was briefly engaged to a woman named lucy. freddie loved her dearly, but not long into their engagement, she jilted him and ran off with another man. freddie was very upset at the time, but he’s moved on now, for the most part.
when his father announced they were moving, it really just made sense for freddie to follow and to move in with them. he’ll start looking for his own place soon, maybe, once they’re all settled in.
so long story short, freddie valence is a compassionate, loving man who can be a bit naive at times, maybe. he chooses to see the good in the world, even though it’s not always been kind to him. while some may see him as weak because of his feelings, freddie can’t really shut that part of himself down. he’s always worn his emotions on his sleeve, and that’s just not going to change. he’s charming and incredibly stubborn, once he makes up his mind on something. freddie can be a bit reckless, but he would never put his family in danger.
additionally, he is very recently engaged to vivian irwin. it was arranged, and neither of the two really know each other yet.
he’s been called “freddie” by all from practically birth, and won’t answer to anything else at this point, so don’t even try.
