Dinner at Eight (fredstermclair)
[Freddie tossed his python at her. It was a heavy caliber, but she should be able to handle it. he turned to the door and tried to peer out the crack in between.]Â
Long story short. I lied about being a reporter. Iâm a hunter, a group of people that travel and hunt monsters. Ghosts, ghouls, demons and like.Â
[Freddie turned to her quickly shooting her a serious look.]
You ever see Dracula? The old vampire movie?
She caught the gun quite expertly, and she knew that her remembering had extended to her hands as well. She knew how to work a weapon. Sheâd never been a professional killer of any sort, but Clara had always known how to defend herself.
âShouldâve known better,â she muttered to herself, before shooting a glance at Freddie and explaining, âSeems like every man I meet has a sweet little secret to keep.â
Dracula? Clara blinked. Yes, sheâd seen itâŚand she hoped he wasnât trying to imply that they had Dracula on their trail or some sort.
âYeah? What about it?â
Yeah well, the monsters this week are vampires.Â
[One day Freddie would find a way to put things more eloquently.]Â
Holy objects don't scare them, holy water doesn't quite work, they're very strong and faster than all hell.Â
[Freddie could tell by Clara's expression he wasn't helping.]Â
They are however vulnerable to dead man's blood, which... is what it implies. The bullets in that gun are laced with it. If you managed to hit one then they'll be paralyzed for a while...
[Freddie suddenly grew quiet.]
Long enough for me to chop their head's off. That's the only way to kill them.
[Suddnely the cathedral doors began crashing. The pew managing to hold them back for now. Freddie was forced to yell over the crashes]
There are three vampires outside. They want you. I don't know why but apparently there's something special about you.Â
[Suddenly the crashing stopped. Freddie motioned her to be silent. Noises of scratching and growls could be heard from the top of the cathedral. They were going to come in another way. Freddie moved towards Clara, holding his knife at the ready.]
You have 6 shots. Make them count.Â
[Freddie examined Clara's eyes and smiled.]
For the record. I would have loved to have taken you to dinner. Sorry about all this.Â
[Freddie then gently cuppedd her face and kissed her. Just as the cathedral windows crashed. Pulling away suddenly he saw a vamp standing amougnst the shards grinning while baring his teeth.]
Six shots. Make them count!
[Freddie stepped out of the safety of the shadows and smiled.]Â

[The two ran inside the cathedral. Freddie ragained some of his breath before moving a pew in front of the door, effectively blocking it.]
Do you know how to use a gun?
[Freddie looked at Clara stoicly. He needed to protect her, she was there next target and to hell with that. Clara didnât respond to the question, she simply stared at Freddie awestruck.]Â
Clara, talk to me, do you know how to use a gun?
Gun? Gun? Something in her mind stirred - wanted to stir - but Clara was too bewildered by what was happening. She probably should have gone with him when he went to ask questions. Heâd probably asked all the wrong sorts of people.
âYes!â she suddenly cried. âI remember! I remember how to use it!â
Remember, she whispered to herself. Run and remember. It was a recurring theme with her, but then again, sheâd always loved an adventure.
âBut what happened? Why are they after you?â she demanded.

[He gestured her to follow. The two walked for a few moments before Freddie piped up.]
Do you have any deadmanâs blood with you? I have a few supplies in my car but if youâd brought some thatâd be very fucking useful.Â
[Freddieâs 67â mustang fastback came into view. He missed his pride and joy.]Â
âItâs not something I carry too often,â she said, tightening the backpack on her shoulders with a sideways glance at him. This was potentially dangerous, especially considering she didnât know the man, but she had missed this. It was more exciting than hunting people.
âI mean, like I said, I donât do it often anymore. Iâm prepared with basics. Holy water, silver bullets, salt anti-possession charm. Simple things, you know. If Iâd planned better, I would have grabbed some,â she looked over at him, giving a somewhat apologetic smile. âI could get some, though.â
No. I have plenty. Thanks though.
[The two reach his car. he opens his trunk and presses a button on the side of the trunk to reveal his arsenal. Meticulouslly placed and ordered so he always knew where his weapons were. He removed his personal machete and his spare. He handed the blade to her and held up a few vials of blood.]Â
I'd recommend when we get close you lace your blade with some blood. It helps in a pinch. Any knick with it and they'll slow down.Â
Aria looked up. âOh this, yeah. Why?â

âCouple days ago, âm proud of it.â
It's brilliant. I have a devil's trap on my back.Â
[He turns around and shows the tip of the trap on his back through his collared shirt. He enjoyed the tattoo immensly.]Â

[Freddie scanned the menu. They had burgerâs and thatâs all he really needed.]Â
âChicken salad sounds good.â Chachi said making a face. The waiter came over and as always asked for drinks first. âIâll have a coke.â She said, looking over to Freddie so he could order.
Burger, medium rare, fries, and a chocolate milkshake if you don't mind.Â
[Freddie gave the menu's to the waiter and turned back to the girl.]
You know, you'd make a hell of a hunter. I wouldn't wish this life on anyone, but if you got sucked in, you'd be pretty damn ballsy.Â

âTwenty?â she repeated, raising an eyebrow. Hell, that made her somewhat nervous. But it wasnât taking on twenty alone, as sheâd attempted before. âYeah, I have,â she continued, sliding the backpack from her shoulders and digging around inside. A few hunting supplies were inside, mostly out of paranoia, but nothing that would quite work on vampires. Except for her combat knife, which wasnât exactly proper for chopping heads off.
âI donât have a machete with me,â she muttered, pulling the lighter from her pocket and lighting the cigarette before straightening back out. âIâm sure youâd have an extra one though, yeah?â

[Time passed, soon it was 8:05, 8:10, 8:30. Where was that boy? Freddie was no where to be found and Clara simply stood there furious that she was being stood up. Finally at 8:30 she gave up and began walking away. As she turned the corner.]
[As she did so however, she was a step from running into the mysterious hunter who nearly crashed into her. Freddie looked up at the confused woman, his clothes were a mess, torn and ripped in almost every concievable way. His face was cut along the cheek and in his hand a large bloodied machete was shaking slightly. He knew sheâd be here right now, he needed to warn her. They were going for her.]

So much for him being too good to fall into a ditch. Time trickled on and on, and soon, despite herself, Clara felt a wave of indignance coming over her. Who the bloody hell was he to charm his way onto her good side, and then stand up her like this? Especially after sheâd offered to help? Crossing her arms over her chest, she strutted angrily off and away from the cathedral, turning the corner with a cross look on her face that soon turned into one of confusionâŚ
âFreddie!â she squeaked. Well, sheâd have to forgive him now, wouldnât she? He was allâŚbeat up! Whoâd done that to him? Sheâd give âem a piece of her mind! Except⌠âRun? Wha - oh, youâre cominâ with me!â
She reached out for his free hand and tugged him after her as she broke into a run, back towards the cathedral as her mind spun. Maybe they could hide inside?

Aria looked around the shop, waiting for someone. Who the hell was this guy supposed to be? A groan came from her lips and she saw someone approach her.
Ummm.. Hi⌠are you Aria?
[Fredster was nervous. Itâd been a while since heâd been on a date, his best friend Cook decided to set him up on a blind date.]Â
She smiled softly. âI am, you must be Freddie.â
Yeah.. Listen I was just coming here toâŚ
[Freddie was going to say that he was here to call it off, that he wasnât ready for a date much less anything else. However, something caught his eye.]
Is that⌠an anti-possession tattoo? From supernatural?Â
Aria looked up. âOh this, yeah. Why?â

âI like being different.â she said, looking over to Freddie. âWell, I saw it with my own eyes. It wasnât human, and Iâm taking your word for it.â She said, putting her menu down.Â
