Data Management: Mars Craters
The following python program gives the arrangement of data in a logically understandable and increased readability form.
The result of the above program is shown below;
Mars Craters - Frequency Distribution , Latitude, Size
The Python Code below gives the Frequency distribution of Craters on Mars Surface at various Latitudes. Also, it includes the Distribution of Crater size.
The Result of the above program is below;
Mars Craters -Position, Crater Concentration Distributions
How is the concentration of craters and it’s position distributed on the surface of Mars?
The Mars Craters Study, presents a global database that includes over 300,000 Mars craters 1 km or larger that were created between 4.2 and 3.8 billion years ago during a period of heavy bombardment (i.e. impacts of asteroids, proto-planets, and comets). I was more interested in the position and the concentration of craters as well as Diameters of Craters.
From the analysis of data, It was found that the Concentration and Position of the craters varied between the North and South Pole of the Planet. The variations in the Concentration of craters with respect to position (Latitude) can be seen in the graph below;
The graph shows that the regions nearer to the equators were subjected to more bombardment than other regions. Furthermore, the Poles were the least prone to the bombardment.
