This blog documents my challenge to buy as little food as possible and survive on food recovered from bins, traded or given. By doing this I want to explore the social aspect of this lifestyle as well as the amount of waste and the resistances met..but also to have a lot of fun cooking weird food! :D

Hello all! Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately but there’s a reason.  When I started this blog I was one lowly person dumpster diving and finding obscene amounts of food. Over the years this has developed into running a very official food waste project with other Directors and Volunteers (we’re all volunteers, no one is paid) as a Community Interest Company, picking up food from companies and well as getting it from bins and giving it back to the public.  In this time I have seen so much wasted food and this is just the tip of the iceberg. We have to turn down so much wasted food because we just don’t have the facilities or people power to deal with it.  The reason I haven’t been posting so much is because the sheer amount of food we deal with is too overwhelming for me. Once we have picked it up, sorted it, weighed it and put it into correct storage it seems so difficult for me to capture this process honestly. I just don’t know how to photograph this in a way that can convey the scale of it.  I love this blog I'm not going to stop, but what you see is just a glimpse of the big picture!

When I started this blog 3 years ago, I wrote that it was to document my challenge to survive on food waste. I only had an inkling then that it is really no challenge at all. Every meal of mine is amazing, the challenge is really to both witness how much is wasted and struggle with the fact that you can’t single handedly save it all. BUT that’s why people are working really hard to alleviate the current absurd food waste problem. Put pressure on your local supermarkets, restaurants, corner shops, cafes etc etc etc to overall try to REDUCE waste rather than simply donating to waste projects. We don’t want waste going to landfill but more than that we don’t want it to exist in the first place.
