Mystic Messenger
Last night at PAX Aus I attended a talk on dating sims called Invitation to Luuuuuurve. It was hosted by Michelle Star and the panel included Shell Osborne, Elizabeth DeLoria and Bea (didn’t catch her last name!)
They talked about a game I’ve been meaning to play forever, Hatoful Boyfriend, and they also talked a lot about a mobile game called Mystic Messenger.
I hadn’t hear of it, but was immediately intrigued. It sounded so weird and good.
Elizabeth said that it was a game that was ruining lives, because people are setting alarms to go off at all hours of the night to make sure they get the messages on the app, and when they see their friends all they’ll talk about it Mystic Messenger.
My boyfriend whispered in my ear, “I don’t think you should get this game, babe.”
It was too late. I’d already found it on the app store.
I’ve played a bit today, and I’m super early in but finding it unbelievably fascinating. The different characters have so much personality, through just this text chat messages.
