South Carolina's ban on face and neck tattoos heads to court

A lawsuit challenges restrictions on face and neck tattoos and tattoo shop locations, arguing they violate free speech protections.

I was living in SC around the time the ban on tattoo parlors were lifted (a little over 2 decades ago). In my early 20's and fresh out of the "church world", I was looking for "sins" to try for the first time. I played with the idea of getting a tattoo. I was surprised when I learned there were no tattoo parlors in SC. Someone was fighting to try to open one in town. (I think the "no operating within 1,000 feet of...") prohibited them, even though the ban had just been lifted.

The idea of such laws being in place was just ... crazy ... to me. I grew up in the northeast. That would never have been a thing where I was from! Professional tattoo parlors in NJ have been operating for over 150 years!

I think SC didn't allow alcohol sales on sunday or after certain hours when I was living there back then, too...

North Carolina STILL prohibits sales of alcohol (liquor stores closed) on Sunday. LOL! Sooooo fucktarded. The handful of states with such a backwards rule are Oklahoma, Mississippi, Montana, Utah, Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania. Where I now live in NC, the convenience stores can't sell alcohol on Sunday either. I've lived in 2 towns which were completely dry. Individual cities or counties can also impose their own restrictions.

The idea of trying to regulate what, when or how people consume alcohol or how they decorate their body is just ABSURD to me.

The great thing about progress is this: eventually -like it or not- the backwardsness will change, or, will be forced to change.
