The sudden embrace was a surprise, but a welcomed one. Hanji hugged the Captain back tightly before he decided to let go. It was beyond clear that whatever has happens was no small issue. His body language and facial expressions…they were of a man who was such a contrast to the cool, calm, and collected Levi so many younger soldiers admired and strived to imitate.

She remained by his side, not wanting to be too far from him. When he finally attempted to say what was going on and broke down, the scientist immediately took him into her arms again. If this was about Gin…then it only confirmed her fears about him. That he had driven Levi to such a horrid mental state, that he feels lost. That serpent in man’s clothing deserved nothing. Especially a man as good as Levi.

Fingers gently wiped the tears from face. “Levi…it’s alright if you can’t put it in words. Just know that I am here and I ain’t going anywhere.”

{~⚔ Levi embraces her back, his hands clenching the back of her shirt, as he feels himself start to crumble. Feeling like he can finally let go, though a piece of him is trying to be strong. He didn’t want to fully fall on her, to lean too much into her because she’s got a lot going on too. 

He hates how weak he feels. How weak he’s become, essentially feeling like the shell of a man that he use to be. Sob’s fall his throat and he can’t control it, so much pain had built up and so much has happened that he feels...just no longer Captain Levi Ackerman; the worlds strongest soldier but...a weak willed soldier who would crumble at the first sign of stress. 

“H-Hanji...I...he..” 

Words were lost on him, when she hugged him...it was a familiar comfort from a world he knew and was familiar with. His teeth grit together as he softly cried what started the spiral. 

“I was assaulted Hanji...and I-I couldn’t fight...I-I was chained...oh god.”

He knew that’s where it started, despite it being his attempt to get Gin in Bastion’s favor...it was something that he knew changed him. The night rolling in his mind and his body just shook against hers. Everything that happened...

“Hanji...” 

His voice barely above a whisper now, though his grip on her tightened. Like a frightened child wanting to seek comfort.

“I...I couldn’t d-do anything t-to stop him...”  ⚔~

The door creaked further open, a nonverbal invitation to come in if he wished. “It’s alright, I got time.” She knew Levi had been through a lot… and loved someone she found untrustworthy, to say the least. Perhaps they had an arguement? Or something else? Whatever his predicament, Hanji would help him however she could.

“Please tell me what’s on your mind. Honestly, it’s no trouble for me.”

She stepped closer to him before reaching out and patted his shoulder. Sleep would have to wait. She’d be up all night if he needed her for that long.

{~⚔  There’s a brief silence as he shifts to go inside, stopping for a moment before he shifts his weight to spin around and embrace her. Just wanting to revel and remember the way holding someone he knows cares about him, other than Gin of course. 

Someone he knew and has known for years. 

Staying silent for a few moments before he pries himself away from her to move and sit in a chair. Eyes kind of staring for a second before moving to look up at her. Trying to find the words to voice what he’s feeling, how he’s feeling and it’s just...more difficult then he thought it would be. 

His hands lightly starting to wring, eyes closing once more, finally speaking, his voice is soft. A complete change from the confident captain she’s known. 

“I’ve lost myself. I don’t...I don’t know how to put into words Hanji. So much has happened...”

His lips thin and shoulders drop, like the weight of the world is suddenly on them. 

“Just...”

A hand moves to rest on his forehead as tears start to flow from his eyes, his form softly trembling as he starts to let go of what he’s been holding onto...being strong...brave for him and he just...can’t anymore. 

“Hanji...”  ⚔~}

{~⚔  Really? Are they really doing this again? They’re not saying anything but he can feel the animosity growing. Leaving him just to heave  a sight before leaning back in his char.  

Of course he has notice the arrival of another person he prefers not to have seen ever again. Great, everything’s chaotic, just like normal. ⚔~}

{~⚔  There is a moment of silence that passes between them, sharp silver eyes watch the being in front of him for a moment, digesting the words spoken to him before there is a soft sigh taken. 

“Protecting is a way to find purpose in your life, but I cannot agree with it being equivalent to death. You will not always be able to protect those closest to you, sometimes things happen beyond your control and people get hurt, people die and there’s not really a lot that you can do about it.” 

His eyes shift toward the window. 

“I have failed many times in protecting those I care about, I have lost nearly all of my comrades and even those that were in my charge. I strive to protect but sometimes it isn’t enough. And sometimes...you have to put your faith in others to protect or take care of themselves when you’re not there. Trust them, and even then shit happens.” 

His voice becomes quiet before looking back toward them. 

“But you keep on moving forward because it is all you can do. If I were to believe my failure to protect those I care about is like death...would be dishonoring those that fell and I cannot do that. Their sacrifice and memory pushes me forward, and I will keep on moving no matter what.”  ⚔~}

Upon seeing her Captain, Hanji’s single eye widened slightly. She was about to go to bed, but heard the knock. “Levi…I’ve been alright. How about you? Do you need to see me for anything?”

{~⚔  There is a mumbled apology for disturbing her, knowing she is about ready to go to bed. Eyes deviate from her briefly, trying to gather his thoughts and heavily considering coming back in the morning. However, he hadn’t seen in what felt like ages and felt a desire to see a familiar face, one he’s known for years and not the strangers on the other land. 

“I honestly don’t know anymore Hanji.” 

Levi didn’t know how to describe it, he felt lost. Like he was stuck in a row boat adrift in the middle of the ocean. No oar to steer himself and no land that seemed to be in view. He knows he loves Gin, that is a fact, and one he will never regret but...with everything that’s happened, he knows he’s different and feels less like himself than when he first met Gin. 

“I just need some one to talk to but...I can come back tomorrow if that would be better.”   ⚔~}

Gin kept up the amusement even if it turned into more nervousness. He gave a slight chuckle as that thumb brushed under the bruise. Blue and purple really stood on on such fair flesh. Something he thought might be ignored…but he couldn’t hide from Levi.

“It’s na a big deal~ Just was playin’ with an old friend and well, one thing led ta anotha…~” That was a perfect excuse, right? “Really, it’s nothin’……~”

Another nervous laugh and Gin tried to dodge out of the conversation.

{~⚔  Levi watches Gin’s features turn to slight nervousness, still subtle enough to not be seen by anyone else. Lips thin for a moment before he slowly releases the others chin and pushes himself to stand up. 

“And this old friend decided the punch you because they were incredibly happy to see you I take it? Like Hanji was happy to see you?” 

Voice even, he doesn’t sound disappointed or even surprised, this is just what comes with the territory. Gin has changed for the better, not 100% but Levi won’t force it. He moves to grab an ice pack and wrap it in before moving back to gently place it on his eye. 

“How’s your head?”  ⚔~}

Levi can totally ignore the black eye the snake sported as Gin just enjoyed the company. He was a perfectly innocent creature that didn’t just get something that was well deserved. 

“Nope. Nothin’ at all, Levi~”

{~⚔ There is a heavily skeptical look that crosses the captains features, watching every aspect of Gin’s face, able to see the subtle facial twitches that everyone misses that Gin can hide from them. The silver haired male can hide every emotion from everyone else...save for him.

“Nothing huh?” 

Gently grasping Gin’s chin, the captain looks at his black eye and gently runs his thumb over the others sharp cheek just under the edge of the bruise. 

“Nothing at all? Are you sure about that?” 

Silver eyes shift to look up at Gin’s own. Silently giving him the chance to try again.  ⚔~}

She grinned as she planted a kiss on his lips. “Of course I did. Where did you run off too?” She asked with a playful pout as she hugged him close.

{~⚔ A small upturn tugs on his lip at the small kiss which he returned, arms gently staying around her waist as his eyes lightly shift away from her. 

“I had to...clear up some unfinished business. Nothing too serious. I never meant to be gone so long. Hopefully things haven’t been too unruly in my absence.”   ⚔~}
