How do you feel about the accusations made by native americans and other aboriginal groups that white witches are just appropriating their cultures? This isn’t hate or anything, I would just love to know what to say in defense of wiccans and pagans.
Why is your focus on defending wiccans and pagans and not listening to what these voices are saying? Most of the time they're right. Maybe 5% of the time do my eyes bulge out of my head at something just blatantly wrong.
How many wiccans, pagans, neo-pagans, new-agers, and "light-workers" do you know of who "smudge." How many do you know who claim to have spirit-guides/animals, totems, etc?
So much of the new-age movement is horrifically appropriative of other cultures (karma, chakras, henna, spirit guides, smudging, vision quest, totem animals, Dia de Muertos, bindis, just to name a few) without any real base. It's all cobbled together from external sources rather than internal struggles, personal gnosis, or even ancestral connection. It's an attempt to find truth through other cultures rather than through one's own spirits and relationships, but its all hollow and vapid because at the end of the day all the new-age movement has really done is cut the flowers off of a root.
Your response should not be to ask "How can I defend the Wiccans and Pagans?"
Your response should be "I don't understand. If you are willing to explain, I would like to understand."
