Alright so I was thinking of this idea for a post-apocalyptic storyline…
The world has been devastated by war and famine. Civilization collapses. People are scattered across the world.
However, one group thrives: a massive doomsday cult. After humanity destroys most of themselves, this cult decides that God has abandoned them and the Messiah will never be reborn.
So, they decide to take measures into their own hands. They believe that, if they can engineer the perfect being, the next Messiah, all of them will be raptured and saved to Heaven.
This cult, known as “The Flock”, establishes a massive settlement city, filled with people fleeing the wastelands. Eventually, they close the city off, citing the “safety risks” of the outside world. From inside their labs and behind their cameras, The Flock tests the people in the city. They run experiments, covering them as typical health checks. Decades go by, and then a century, and then all of the things The Flock did became normal; the strange tests, the weird protocols for pregnant women, and all of their close monitoring of growing children.
But, in their towers and their underground mazes, The Flock prepares. Engineers. All in the name of creating their lord, The Shepherd. The one to take them to the Beyond.
Kids go missing from the city all the time. Some come back, quiet and static. They weren’t good enough to keep. Others, though, are never seen again by the city, instead strapped to metal chairs for scientists to see where exactly they went wrong.
Now, imagine setting a ttrpg in this city! Players either as citizens in the city waking up or intruders trying to save the people from The Flock. I’ve been considering writing it up as an actual campaign for a ttrpg so maybe I just need to get the time to do something about it…
Anyways I read “Hell Followed With Us” by Andrew Joseph White and I was such a big fan of the biblical and post-apocalypse genre combination it was amazing; totally inspired this entire idea.
(Also I really like DC Court of Owls can’t you tell from the mask designs lmao)
