Summary: You could hear everyone’s breathing, and if you looked around you might see a few dimmed cellphone screens and slightly lit faces. And that’s when Lucas realized.
Farkle hadn’t come back from the bathroom.
His heart raced.
As he heard doors being shaken aggressively outside the classroom, he knew it was a drill. It was always a drill. But he’d be damned if he wasn’t at least a little worried about him. Because…
What if it wasn’t a drill?
Updated! Chapter 2 added.
Hello, I have not moved to touch this work in a very long time due to the very real school shootings that had rocked my nation after my initial publication (and publication of chapter 2). I had wanted to continue the story with Farkle's healing and PTSD and Lucas' influence on that. However, I no longer wish to continue this work. If I decide I want to pursue that story perhaps I will write a fic about a car accident, mugging, or something else.
I have orphaned this work so it is no longer listed on my AO3. However, I will not hide from those that have read it or find this post that I wrote it.
I feel as though I wrote this fic in a different time, it was before the big mass shootings of late 2017 and 2018, and since they happened I have avoided confronting this fic because I am ashamed of it; but I don’t want to try to erase my own history or those of real victims by pretending I didn’t write it or deleting the fic.
I have also taken measures to hide the identity of the person who suggested this fic out of respect, as I'm the one that took "school lockdown" and elevated it to shooting, they had no part in that. -FM
