It was middle of the night when some noises in the kitchen woke Lance up. Barely opening his eyes when he lifted his head, he patted other side of the bed with his hand. Right, Shiro wasn’t there. He sighed, crawling out of bed.
“Takashi…?” he called out, leaning on kitchen door’s jamb, his voice quiet and soft.
Shiro was there, washing the dishes they left in the sink with his only hand. He glanced over his shoulder, surprised to hear his husband’s voice.
“Lance? Sorry, did I wake you up…?” The man turned the faucet off and grabbed a small towel.
“Why are you not in bed?” Lance murmured, coming up to him, wrapping his arms around Shiro’s waist and squishing his cheek to Shiro’s shoulderblade. “Nightmares…?”
“No, I’m fine, I just-…” Shiro started, reaching with his only arm behind his back to embrace Lance. “I couldn’t sleep. I don’t know. I just felt… so awake and-and excited? I was thinking about you, about us. I looked at your face next to me and I felt so happy, my heart were beating so fast, I-… I was afraid I will wake you up, so I just got out of bed and decided to do something.”
While Shiro was explaining his reason, Lance’s smile grew wider and wider. He hugged his husband even tighter, planting kisses on Shiro’s back.
“I can’t believe you are real. I must be in some heavy coma and you are only a dream I’m living while I sleep…” he whispered.
Shiro turned around, so he could hug Lance properly and look into his eyes with the softest smile Lance had ever seen in his life.
“I assure you I’m real. We are real, Lance and I love you. So much.”
Happy birthday, @crsinclair 🍰🌸😆
