with rumours that rafah crossing will re-open in the first quarter of 2025, the iwais family desperately want to evacuate. they are dealing with worsening health problems, including burns, bullet wounds, and skin diseases (mohammed shared some photos of these on their gfm page). additionally, one family member is now pregnant, and she needs medical attention outside of gaza as soon as possible.

For the past few months, Mohammad has been suffering with excruciating gut pains that are suffocating even. And he's had to take a cocktail of medications to combat the effects of the unsanitary food and water that he and many other Gazans have had no choice but to eat for the last year.

I am a mother of a baby with a critical health condition. His condition is getting worse day by day, and the more I look into his eyes, the more I feel my heart breaking because I can't give him the treatment or the food he needs to survive. My husband also suffers from a severe war injury that made him unable to move, and his suffering increases my anxiety and sadness.
In these difficult circumstances, we have become hopeless. There is no food, no water, no money to buy the simplest necessities of life, and diseases are spreading around us due to poor hygiene and deplorable sanitary conditions. The shelling is continuing, and we do not know when the next shelling will come. Fear fills our hearts, but hope in God still pushes us to stay steadfast.

We have known about this extended family and the area they live in since mid July. However, it was not until this week that we could come in and serve this encampment of destroyed and makeshift tents.
Just to show you that no one in Gaza is immune to the suffering and pain, Refaat Alareer’s family, despite his magnitude as a Palestinian scholar and activist, is living in some of the worst tents we have seen.
It was our honor to assist them and respect the legacy of the man who we are so fortunate to have been given permission to name our camp after. Check back later in the week to see how we provided tents for Refaat’s brother’s family and supported the encampment that needed so much help.”
