Hi [Redcated], It's finally been a full week in [redacted] and I feel like maybe I have enough to talk about now. My apartment is really crazy and large, but it's filled with so much shit. Very typical loft... doesn't matter the city it's in, always the same. My roommate -- the only one I've met so far -- told me the apartment used to be a weird BDSM / sex dungeon in the 80s with a jacuzzi in the living room. We should reinstall it. Then a decade later, it was a rave spot called Automatic. I guess for awhile it was nothing at all until the 2010s when it became a gallery space. Now it's just our apartment.
Mostly I've spent the last few days cleaning the shared spaces. Again... so much shit. I fixed and cleaned the entire bathroom then started on the kitchen but got overwhelmed. This is the my first time moving into an already-occupied place and I don't want to come off as a total dick by cleaning and reorganizing everything. I also don't have the time. Or, I guess I do, but that's not how I want to spend it. I think I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself to have everything figured out right away, but it'll take time. Biggest thing is to get a normal job. Not even just for money, but so I get out of my apartment and stop thinking about myself so much.
As for more interesting news, I downloaded a dating app for the first time in years. Figured it'd be a good way to make friends. I've been talking to one dude from Florida who's very my type. Did I ever talk to you about that? My obsession with Florida and Floridians? Before I decided to move to [redacted], the only other city I considered was Gainesville. Harry Crews lived and died there. I have his name tattooed on my arm. Also Charles Pinion who made an iconic sov splatter movie about Gainesville skaters and punks in the 80s.
I could write 1,000 more things but I'm already concerned by how long this letter is and how much I've managed to write while still saying pretty much nothing. This is maybe the worst "updates" letter ever.

Aadam Jacobs is a notable figure in the Chicago music scene, known for his extensive audio recordings of live shows during the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000's. For two-plus decades, he attended a dozen or more gigs a month, setting up his microphones and deck and audio taping the performances for his private collection. Often referred to as "Chicago's Taping Guy," Jacobs has spent decades capturing thousands of live performances, particularly in Chicago's indie rock and underground music venues. Jacobs' dedication to preserving these live performances has culminated in a vast archive of audio tapes. There are roughly 10,000 tapes with approximately 3 sets per tape so the archive likely is 30,000 separate performances.
...His meticulous recording and cataloging efforts have created a valuable archive of Chicago's music history, preserving countless performances by both established and emerging artists for future generations to enjoy. Jacobs' passion for music began in his youth, and he quickly became immersed in the local music scene. He started taping shows in the early 1980s, using cassette tapes and later transitioning to DATs and digital formats.
His collection is a treasure trove of rare and unreleased recordings, offering a glimpse into the formative years of some of the most influential bands in alternative rock history. Jacobs' dedication to preserving these performances has made him a valuable resource for music historians, journalists, and fans alike. His work has been featured in documentaries, articles, and podcasts, highlighting the importance of independent music and the role of taping in documenting cultural history. His dedication to preserving the past and sharing it with others has made him a beloved figure in the Chicago music community.
