Happy Monday! Introducing our new rescue, Prof. Filius Flitwick the Dwarf Reticulated Python. He is roughly 3 years old and very friendly once out of his enclosure. When he is at hone, he can be hissy and a little cage defensive but no strikes or bites have been witnessed by our members or the previous owner. A very handsome man who will be staying with the rescue a bit while we determine the cause of his cage mates mouth issues. Tis the season of warm weather!! If you are going to start letting your shelled friends, such as this Red Foot tortoise, remember: 1. Keep it clean! Don't use pesticides and herbicides in places where your tortoise will be walking and potentially eating. 2. Watch the temperature! Do the research on what your tortoise's POTZ (preferred optimal temperature zone) is. You do not want to leave them out in direct sunlight without a way to escape into a cooler location. Try to avoid the hottest times of day focusing more on mid morning and mid afternoon. Tortoises in particular have a very difficult time cooling down due to carapacial (top shell) heat retention. 3. Protect them! Do not leave your pet unattended outside free roaming without taking safety precautions. Protect your pet with stable housing outdoors, escape proof enclosures to prevent dig outs, predators, etc. 4. Avoid the glass! When you take your little friends out to enjoy some well deserved sunshine, please, leave the glass enclosures inside! Theses enclosures often become ovens holding in the heat and can lead to hyperthermia and even death. 5. Water!
