de Bagagedrager — Cover Illustrations

De Bagagedrager (the rack on the back of a bike) is the name of a radio show on Radio NPO 2 Soul & Jazz. The host of the show rides along on the back of a bike with a musician, who shows us around their favourite places in their hometown. The cover images show the route on the map, with little icons of the places they visited. Listen to the show here

Beeld en Geluid — Poster / Brochure

At the moment I’m working together with het Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid on the communication of their educational activities. The first product we created is this leporello-folded brochure for schools and teachers. It can be folded open and used as a poster, too. The style features a typeface I created in 2018, called Stormvloed.

Pop Trading Company — Apparel and Sticker Graphics

Pop Trading Company is one of my favourite European skateboard brands, so it’s always nice to see some of the team members skating around with my graphics on their hat or T-shirt. I’ve been slipping Peter some more ideas, so wait and see what comes out next season!

Number Nine — Store Branding (Multiple Stores)

I have been working with Number Nine for over 10 years. Since the very beginning I’ve been doing the logo design and identity throughout all the (printed) goods and deliverables for all Number Nine stores, in close collaboration with the visual merchandising team.

Giphy — Gif Animations

Around Christmas a made a few animations to use as stickers on Instagram, and uploaded them on Giphy. They turned out to be quite popular, and became trending within a few days. The amount of views is in the hundreds of millions — and counting — which is pretty mindblowing. Check out the whole collection here.

La Freund — Record Sleeve and Label Designs

Various EP sleeve designs for La Freund Recordings, a small label from Amsterdam.

It started as a side project by Olivier Boogie with an EP release by Duke Hugh. Without money to print a proper sleeve, we played around with different ideas until we came up with stickers that are placed in relation to the label on the record. That became the style for the first series of 3 EP’s: Duke Hugh, Sjamsoedin and Beraber. The second series will all be featuring the same black and white sleeves, with different labels. First release in the second series is Claude — Future EP.

Abstract Throwups II — Mural

Last summer I had the great opportunity to paint one of my favourite spots in Rotterdam, the yellow tunnel. Opperclaes invited me and helped with painting too, because I somewhat underestimated the amount of work. The walls are covered on both sides with abstract and stylized versions of throwups, a graffiti term for a quick and simple piece with few colors. The tunnel marks the entrance of the Luchtsingel, a connection from Rotterdam Central Station to Hofplein.

Netflix — Illustration

When Netflix asked me to create an illustration for their socials (Instagram) about not wanting to stop watching your favourite series, I didn’t have to think for long. That same month I finished watching Fargo (Season II) and I absolutely loved it. I tried to capture the felling of getting sucked into the narrative with objects and details and from the story flying into my head (through my eyes). Assignment via New Chique.

About Me

My name is Friso Blankevoort (a.k.a. Freshco), an illustrator/designer who living and working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. As far as I can remember I’ve always been drawing. Skateboarding culture has had a significant impact on my artistry, being inspired by the graffiti I saw around me when I first started skateboarding as a teenager in Haarlem and Amsterdam. I have a bachelor in illustration from the Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, Class of 2006.
