FINALLY. I love Evil X, but man, I do not enjoy drawing armour. If anybody has any tutorials or tips they'd like to share, I would appreciate it. Anyway, more worldbuilding for TTABTT! I can't wait to write about it, but that's far away atm, so I'm gonna give some details now.
W.A.T.C.H., which stands for Working Against The Criminal Hoards/Hive (I don't know which one is better; willing to change it if anything better is suggested haha), is an agency/department that works with the government to reduce crime rates. However, over the past decade, it has been overtaken by hybrid discrimination legislation and been played out as if those two objections were always one in the same. The Secretary of Security (I know it says CEO in the drawings; ignore that) is a secretive woman who rarely does interviews, but there is no denying that her marketing for her policies has had a major hand in modern culture. Her control over the city stems from a tight leash and soft enough words to lull people into a false sense of justice and safety.
Meanwhile, X came out of nowhere. Overnight, they had a tight grip on every unlawful citizen in the city and access to everything they needed to keep them under their claws. Their control stems from fear. As long as there are loved ones to hold over a person's head, they will be docile.

Trans guy!Scar is so important to me. I would like to see more trans men headcanons who are hairy. Who are musclar. Who have long hair. Trans guys who chose not to get nipple grafts Diffrent scar shapes (the connected double incision is the one I'm going to get!). Scars that are wider because scar care was not a piroity. Scars that are loved and shown off. Trans men who have not had surgery yet or will never get surgery for whatever reason!
More related to my AU, TTABTT!Scar has not had top surgery yet. He is unable to afford it but very dearly wants it. In the future when he does get it, you'll be unable to get a shirt on him. Before the surgey and aftwards Jimmy would help him with building up his chest muscles. Gem would show up while he's house bound to keep him company. Grian would obviously take care of him like a prince. Scar would be devasted being unable to pick up Jellie so he makes Grian spoil her in front of him to live vicariously through him.
I imagine him as a bit more full chested, though I have not drawn him like that in fear of making somebody dysphoric and/or be seen as fetishing but I think there should be more rep of trans guys who don't look how they want off the bat as I feel it's an unrealistic experience for most. But his quality of life would improve so drastically and I think he deserves to be happy.

Speaking of writing, that has been... tough. Action and a lot of medical research has always been a weak spot of mine so while most of chapter 21 is done there are two scenes that are dragging. I've actually started writing chapter 22 in a dire state of procrastination haha. But it will get done soon I can just feel it!
Mostly because I've told myself I can't write my Grian goes through heat/perhaps gets pegged oneshot until I've written at least three chapters haha.

Do avians have a mating season and if so, how do they (Pearl, Grian, Jimmy) behave during it?
Sorry that it took me so long to respond to this. I was doing RESEARCH. And I've learned some interesting things! (If you just want the NSFW, go to the bottom for the read more, but let me nerd out about birds for a second, okay?! /j)
So, birds typically have cues to start their mating season related to environmental factors. An abundance of food or seasonal shifts in temperature and light, etc. This causes a surge of hormones, and the mating season commences. But in confinement, those can be artificially changed. For example, in this AU, avains have an abundance of food because of modern agriculture and can live in places where it is bright and warm all the time.
Obviously, that is not ideal. Mating seasons, in general, can last for months and are not suitable for a dystopian, end-stage capitalist society. So, there are ways to combat it. More homoeopathic remedies include melatonin and temperature therapy to simulate winter. Some are frugal with their food to simulate food scarcity. But mostly, hormone blockers are used. It would mellow out those spikes, and while they may still have some symptoms of a mating season, one can cope with it and engage with normal life. Overall, they have lower, on average, sex drives because of this but can still partake for bonding reasons. That's also why I headcanon avians to be more androgynous. Not only because with a lot of bird species it's difficult to tell female and male apart, but also because of the effects of what hormone blockers would do if taken at an earlyish age.
Grian hasn't had a heat (I know it's not actually a heat, but I'm just going to call them that for convenience's sake) in quite a while despite his lack of funds for hormone blockers. Mostly this is because he does not eat enough, lives in a cold, dark apartment, worked or exercised so often that it burned all his energy, and also because he did not have a mate until very recently. He would still get aggressive (usually snapping and biting) and focus on one person during his heats, but this often looked like fights with his boss and being very protective over Mumbo, not for any romantic reasons, though.
Pearl is hypervigilant about taking her hormone blockers. I also don't imagine her having very strong behavioural instincts. Yes, she really enjoys being brought food during it and, by the end, will have made a small nest in their bed and prefer to stay there as much as possible, but she is terribly stubborn about letting herself be controlled by animalistic urges and tries to power through. Gem would help any way she could...
Jimmy doesn't take hormone blockers. He probably should, but he never took them growing up due to the lack of avian knowledge the people looking after him had, and when he did get his first one, he got terrible side effects due to his half-hybrid status. And with his... flexible job, he decides to just go through it and suffer the consequences. Tango also handles the consequences, but it is not suffering. When Jimmy ever leaves the house or early on in the mating season, you will find him singing, dancing, being loud and brazen. Way more jealous about Tango and even more aggressive about his territory.
Okay. Now onto the... Mating season stuff. (CW: Breeding kink?, dubious consent (they are out of it))
Imagine Grian. Someone who has never really had a partner before. Every heat has been hours of humping at his wet pillow because he has already rubbed himself painfully raw. He's very sensitive all over during his heat, so the pillow is enough. It is humiliating and something he's ashamed of. Weeks of this every year. Having to go to work while being sensitive, aggressive, and terribly pent up. Though it's not terrible. He doesn't go through it as often as other avians, and with no love interest, he's just hopelessly frustrated instead of a rabid beast.
Then, he meets Scar. Then, he has enough money to eat better. Then, he's staying in Scar's warm apartment with lots of blankets, Scar's scent, and Scar. Grian/Phantom doesn't notice he's in his mating season until it's a bit too late. All those flushes and weird sensations were dismissed as first-crush feelings. Scar doesn't notice either. His gifts of food, drink, and obsessive protectiveness were all things he did on the regular, so when they got more frequent, he barely noticed. Yes, it was a bit strange that Phantom followed him around everywhere like a shadow, preening him by fiddling with his hair and clothes, but he wasn't about to complain about his bird being more affectionate.
Imagine Scar. Phantom had been staying over more and more often. He had arranged blankets like a nest in the bed; Scar dismissed it as him getting comfortable. Then, in the middle of the night, he was woken up by a wet sound of his bird humping his thigh. Phantom was hopelessly lost in hormones, so out of it to really register anything but... it would be cruel to let him suffer like this, especially when it could lead to severe exhaustion... So, if Phantom wanted a clutch, Scar would give him one. And his bird is so excited, for he has never felt this way before, so it doesn't take long. Scar thinks it's over and is quite disappointed until he notices that his cooldown is short. It's constant. Barely time to get some water before he's back up for more. Even though he knew he was unable to do that, he let the bird believe that he was putting eggs in him. Maybe when his bird was coming down from the mating season, Scar reached out to Tango to find him in a similar state of disarray and was lent some fake eggs for the Phantom to nurture until he came back to full function.
The horror he would have felt and the number of times he would apologise are impossible to describe, but Scar was very okay with it. More than he thought he would be. And so, offers to be there for all his future mating seasons.
(CW: Food play) I can imagine there would also be a big aspect of food during it. Male birds often want to feed their mates to show that they can provide for both them and their clutch. Grian, at first, is apprehensive to do anything like that because he's worried about Scar being grossed out, but after Scar licks syrup off his whole body when waffles for breakfast goes a bit awry, he gets an inkling he might be into it. They ease into it. Temperature plays with hot fudge and ice cream down his chest. Food over his cock for Scar to lick up. Leading up to a mating season where he passes soup through their mouths. Hand-feeding him food being a turn-on for him.
I really want to make an NSFW one-shot of this. What do ya'll think? Any suggestions on what would be in it? What would you want to see?

I have one word for you! RANCHERS. I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. And with the fear that I might never write my TTABTT!Rancher one-shot, here is the whole backstory of Jimmy and Tango in ‘To Teach a Bird To Trust’! (That's why this ask took so long for me to respond to, sorry!)
Jimmy bounced around houses a lot in his childhood. As a hybrid orphan, he was dealt a terrible hand, often being blamed for the bad luck that followed him. But his luck must not have been that bad if he managed, by pure chance, to bump into Tango, a fire hybrid who had been caught in a terrible rainstorm unprepared. Thankfully, Jimmy had an umbrella and protected him from the rain. And while Jimmy never saw him again afterwards, he never forgot that night. The first time he had ever seen another hybrid and also the first time he had been shown kindness.
Years passed; Jimmy aged out of the system, hid his hybridness completely, got control over his life, and lived it exclusively in solidarity. He liked living alone, talking to no one, drinking with his head down; at least that was what he told himself. However, one evening, after visiting a new spot for liquid comfort, a rainstorm started- a real brutal one. He had no umbrella and was now stuck in the entryway of the pub until it calmed down. Just his luck…
Then, he felt warmth by his side. He turned to see that fire hybrid from all those years ago. Now returning the favour and shielding him from the rain. They sparked up a conversation that flowed so easily as Tango walked him home. And then he stayed the night. And the night after that. And soon, they became one unit, and Jimmy joined the group at the pub. No labels really fit them; boyfriend was too light and unserious, and neither cared for marriage, so they just stayed as Jimmy and Tango. The two have a dream to eventually move out of the city to a farm in the countryside, be completely independent and tend to animals in their spare time. The pet name Rancher now a silent decree to their shared dream.
Some parts of their story do get mentioned briefly, like how the two lost their jobs and nearly became homeless. It was in the winter, when they couldn’t afford heating, and Tango got drastically ill because of it. After that, Jimmy swore to do anything to protect him. And he did. Which gained the attention of X…
Also, because I didn't do TTABTT!Jimmy's song in this ask, I'm letting you all know now it is Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish.
Grian and Pearl carry the memory of their sibling with them everywhere they go. Every time they speak to each other, Grian can only see the too-small infant he met so many years ago, and Pearl can only see the kid with dreams bigger than his head, most focused on his studies than anything to do with her.

I really struggled with both this chapter and the art that has gone with it (which is why I'm including the sketches so you understand how many changes I made lmao). I'm worried about how readers are going to react, especially with a certain character regressing and the dreaded (sorta?) miscommunication trope. Know that 1. I adore TTABTT!Pearl and I am going to branch her character out more and 2. Grian has a lot of self-worth issues that do not excuse his actions but explain them, and you are allowed to be mad at him lmao. Anywho, have some sketches!

Now that I have your attention, I'm gonna talk about hybrid penises! There are the more obvious ones. Wolf-hybrids would have a knot. Hybrids that are horse or horse-adjacent (for example, four-legged), or bigger than usual, would have larger and longer anatomy for mating between two of the same hybrids to be possible, though that would obviously cause an issue (or not an issue at all depending on how you look at it!) between interspecices couples. Fire hybrids run hot in every single way, from their blood to even their cum, even capable of burns if it has been a while. Now, dragon hybrids, because they are completely fantastical animals, I can truly do anything to that. And if it's up to me, it's a tentacle that can lay an egg inside so the receiver doesn't even have to make their own, making interspecies coupling more common with this group. Also, horns in all hybrids can be quite sensitive at the base and are taboo for anybody but lovers to touch. Does that have any scientific backing? No. Just fun.
But I know that what everybody wants to know is the wonderful cloaca and how that works! /s. The more I have thought about it, the more I think that there would be an external part, instead of it being entirely internal. My headcanon is that it would be likely to what the people in the uh... Bowuigi fandom I used to be in would do it. Turns out turtle and bird anatomy are similar and have to be worked around for writing any good smut scene and also so that any sort of interspecies mating could occur. And in said stories, they had it where the internal part would slide out of the cloaca and become a more human-like dick. Again, this is just a headcanon; you can imagine it however you want if you want to imagine it at all. But in my head, I think it would likely have a different appearance, like a darker colour, no head or foreskin, perhaps on average smaller(?), and would be quite... wet. For it to slide out more easily, it replicates what an AFAB body would do and makes its own lubricant when stimulated. So, foreplay is an absolute must.
Sorry if this sounds incredibly awkward; that's because this is to me, haha. Not in a bad way, just have this fear that this sounds incredibly strange. I have only written a handful of smut in my life, all hidden by anonymous usernames, so openly talking about this is quite bizarre.
Anyway, with all this biology out of the way, what does this mean for TTABTT!Scar and Grian? Well, lots of fun for starters.
I want to preface that in any content outside of this AU, I envision Grian as the dom, some out of spite and some because of how I view their dynamic, but that all goes out the window because of just how much of a loser (affectionate!!) I have made TTABTT!Grian. I cannot see him being anything but a very selfless lover because of just how grateful he would be that he's able to give the amazing, stunning, attractive Scar head (and I feel he also has a lot to make up for by the end of the story lmao). And with him being demi-sexual, I could see him also seeing sex more as a bonding experience and to make Scar feel good.
Doesn't mean that Scar doesn't give back. I see him as a confident sex pest. Definitely had quite a few partners and knows his way around the bedroom, and isn't afraid to admit it. Meanwhile, Grian hasn't had many, if any, experiences and is deeply ashamed of his romantic feelings, let alone his SEXUAL feelings. This all boils down to the fact that even though Scar is a trans guy, I still think he tops. I feel like if I made this AU where Scar is a disabled trans guy to be the one where I flip the usual roles, it would feel kinda... I don't have the exact word, but it doesn't sit right with me. Not that people can't write that dynamic! I am so openly for more trans!Scar in literally any capacity, so I am not going to judge; just personally, I think the idea of straps are very compelling, and I can't believe I haven't found a story with one despite how many trans!Grian fics there are.
Just imagine with me. It can be any size, even fantastical. It can vibrate or be specially tailored for G-spot stuff (because yeah, I'm adding that stuff to Avians even though it makes no sense for them to have those parts; I want Grian to do butt stuff, so...). The possibilities are endless!
I can see that, for casual quick sex, Grian would top for convenience's sake, but only if Scar felt comfortable with it, and he'd still be the dom. So I guess the two are verse? But on that topic, I feel like Scar would sit down with Grian near the start of their relationship and throw down how he doesn't want any female terms for his parts, hole and dick only; anything else or any hands on his chest (shirt kept on the whole time) will immediately shut down the sex like a kill switch. Scar would say something like 'I'm not anybody you've been with before', and Grian would say 'I've literally been with nobody else and I've peaked as high as this mountain goes, so trust, I will memorise those rules into my brain with a chisel.' Cue Grian locked in the bathroom frantically researching what to do with a t-dick. Inexperienced but willing to learn.
WAS THIS TOO MUCH?! I have thought a lot about doing a smut one-shot, and I think it is very obvious. One idea is of the two having a... biology lesson, one being self-indulgent and being Scar cherry-popping Grian, and one idea before the big Phantom identity reveal, with Scar being into the anonymous aspect of it and using the number he got for non-heist-related activities. I have literally never talked about my nsfw ideas before, so please tell me if I have done anything wrong. MAN THIS WAS A LOT. SORRY FOR RAMBLING.
It just occurred to me that this likely is in context to this ask when I said I wouldn't go into too much detail about hybrid reproductive anatomy because it wasn't part of the original ask, but now I'm not sure what details you want. Please come back and tell me if you want, like, how it would work, biology style, or how it would work freaky scarian style. Both I am very keen to answer lmao.
