💚 Hello, froggies! 💚
Here goes the poll for the main theme and the alternative theme for the upcoming FW Sherlock Holmes Fanweekend, which will take place on the weekend of Nov 20 - Nov 22.
Again, I picked an external poll generator to allow voting for two themes at once. The main theme will be the one with the most votes, the alternative theme - the one with the second most.
Please, feel free to vote for the themes you would enjoy creating for most! The poll will run until July 28.
Greetings! You are welcome to follow this blog for updates 💚
I will now begin taking suggestions for the themes of the next FW Sherlock Holmes Fanweekend (Nov 20 - Nov 22)!
The themes that didn't make the cut last time but still got at least one vote will automatically carry over to the next round. The updated list of themes we got so far:
Weather
Clue Board
Mystery
Play
Chess
Hope
Grief
Pets
Day Off
Mind Palace
Journey
Letters
It would be nice if we got more themes to pick from. This is where you come in!
Please, send in your theme suggestions in whichever way is most comfortable to you - as an ask, an IM, or as a comment under this post!
I will be accepting them until July 21.
Greetings and feel free to follow this blog for updates 💚
Since the zine contains several double-page spreads, we recommend viewing it in a PDF reader that allows you to display the cover separately from the rest of the pages. This ensures that all spreads are aligned correctly and can be viewed as intended.
We recommend using programs such as Adobe Acrobat or SumatraPDF. If you know how to achieve the same result in another PDF reader, feel free to use that instead!

For the @frogwares-sherlock-events Frogwares Fan Weekend prompt "eldritch"!
When Holmes slept, he dreamed. Admittedly, this was hardly an unusual occurrence among people and animals alike. It would not have surprised him if insects dreamed, and if bees spent their nights buzzing through a nocturnal fantasy of flowers.
Holmes’ own nocturnal fantasies, if they could be called fantasies, were rather less enjoyable. He would have liked to dream about strolling amid flowers with Watson at his side, to enjoy a moment of peace and sunlight.
Instead, he dreamed of the eldritch realms to which he was dragged each time he performed rituals, those ghastly, unknowable worlds so far from home. The places where he was shattered, pieced back together, and shattered again.
Dark skies, with no stars to be seen in any direction, or with the wrong stars. Grey skies, suffocatingly humid air. White sky, the endless void of the Abyss.
In the dreams, he performed arcane ritual after arcane ritual, just as he did during his waking visits to these realms. However, in the dreams, none of those rituals worked. The cold, clammy artifacts which he found refused to fit into their proper place. His blood would not flow across the grey stones, or if it did, it puddled in the wrong place. He could not find the runes for which he searched, and was condemned to run up and down invisible pathways for all eternity.
It was, on the whole, not a pleasant experience.
Holmes jolted awake from another of these dreams, gasping, and clutched at his chest. His heart pounded under his hand, thudding as hard as his feet across the grey stone.
All the angles of his room seemed wrong, distorted somehow. Everything too large, the wardrobe towering over him. As if he, like Alice, had drunk a potion which shrank him until he was wholly too small for his own world.
The curtains were drawn back. And outside the gigantic window, the wrong stars gleamed.
“Watson!” Holmes cried, and his voice echoed off the walls as if he was in some monstrous cavern. “Watson! John!”
Watson did not answer. Gasping, Holmes attempted to scramble out of bed.
The mattress opened under him, a trapdoor, and he fell. Falling, falling forever. Into the whiteness of the Abyss, into the endless light which, like him, could never hope to escape.
The Abyss had devoured all of it, devoured the whole universe, sucked it dry of light and life. And Holmes would forever fall, tumbling towards the center of that crushing malice with no hope of every reaching it, surrounded by that trapped light which could not achieve a great enough velocity to escape the Abyss—
“Holmes! Sherlock, wake up!”
Holmes jolted awake, gasping, clutching at his chest. He looked up wildly, struggling to comprehend the world. Someone was over him, leaning over him, towering over him.
“John?” Holmes whispered. “Are you the correct size?”
“Um. Last I checked, yes.” The figure turned up the bedside lamp. And it was indeed Watson, peering down at him in concern and some measure of pity. “You were crying out for me. Are you all right, Sherlock?”
“I have, admittedly, been better.” Holmes sat up, the whole of his body shaking. The room did, at least, look normal again. “My apologies, Watson. I did not intend to wake you.”
“It’s quite all right. More nightmares?”
Holmes nodded. “The Abyss had swallowed everything around it, perhaps everything in the universe. Even the light. And no matter how fast the light went, it couldn’t escape the Abyss.”
“Sounds like quite a fantastical concept. I don’t think we need to worry about that.” Watson smiled kindly at him. “Would you like to give up on sleep for the moment, and perhaps find something a little more Earthly to focus on?”
“I should like nothing better.” Holmes accepted Watson’s offered hand and rose. He still could not stop trembling, which would be something of an impediment. “However, I fear I may be too unsteady for any activity.”
“Well, surely not every activity.” Keeping hold of his hand, Watson steered him out to the sitting room. “How about cuddling on the sofa?”
Holmes managed a smile, the racing beat of his heart slowing a little. He went to the sitting room window, peered outside, and was greeted by the right stars in their proper place. “That does sound as if it is an activity which I can enjoy even with unsteady hands, yes.”
Soon, he and Watson were curled up together on the sofa, a blanket around their shoulders and hands tangled together. Holmes’ nocturnal fantasies, if they would be called fantasies, were unpleasant and full of the inexplicable. But when he fled such dreams and escaped to the waking world, Watson was always waiting for him. And with Watson here, Holmes could enjoy a moment of peace even in the darkness.

For the @frogwares-sherlock-events Frogwares Fan Weekend prompt "masks"!
Throughout his life, Mycroft had worn many masks. Dutiful son. Responsible older brother. Loyal subject of the Crown.
He had worn each of these masks well, and proudly. He had always been serious and dedicated, even as a child, and his still-greater responsibilities once he found himself raising Sherlock had only increased his devotion to these duties. Sherlock was so fragile, so in need of support and shelter. Mycroft could not fail him.
And yet, he had, in so many ways. Those masks may have sheltered Sherlock from Mycroft’s pain, but they had also stood as a barrier between them. Now, Sherlock had nearly been destroyed by the chaos into which he insisted upon hurling himself, and Mycroft’s ability to wear any mask at all was crumbling.
“Will he recover?” Mycroft asked, the words coming out even more harshly than he had intended. His hands trembled, and he folded them tightly behind his back to conceal it. The mask must stay in place, always, and especially in front of a doctor. “And are you capable of tending to him?”
Watson did not answer at first, pretending to sort through the medicines beside Sherlock’s bed. His lack of attention to the labels, and indeed the fact that he was disarranging them rather than putting them in any sort of order, indicated that he was remaining silent either out of petulance or as a means of buying himself time to think.
“I am capable of tending to him,” Watson said at last. “Although I doubt you will believe that regardless.”
That was certainly true. Even now, Mycroft could hardly fight the urge to snatch up all those medicines and hurl them into the fireplace before they could harm Sherlock.
“Whether I believe you is irrelevant,” he said stiffly. “What matters is the result.”
Watson gave a soft, tired sigh. “I am striving for the best of results. I can promise you that.”
It was small reassurance. Mycroft’s legs trembled underneath him, and he could no longer trust them to hold him up. Not when he gazed at Sherlock, lying so pale and still in the bed.
Cautiously, still maintaining his mask, Mycroft sank into a chair beside the bed and folded his hands together. Sherlock had nearly drowned, and nearly been swept away by a great wave soon after. The water had tried to take him.
Just as it had nearly taken him when he was a boy. So young, so small and fragile as Mycroft cradled him close and tried to warm him. Mycroft’s responsibility, and he had failed, just as he had been failing ever since…
“Mycroft?” Sherlock’s voice, weak but clear. “Are you crying?”
Mycroft’s cheeks were wet. Water once again, water sweeping him away this time, washing away the mask which had been both protection and curse.
He could not put back on. It was as if all his carefully constructed protections had failed at once, brought down by not only disruption to his routine but by memory. Dread, too, dread of what might happen next.
That someday, he would be sitting next to a bed, a bed with Sherlock lying pale and still. Only this time, he would not wake up. He would be gone, taken by rushing water or currents of madness or the ocean of unknown knowledge which constantly beckoned him.
“By Jove, I wouldn’t have expected that.” Watson’s voice, distant. “I’ll get the brandy.”
“Indeed. Thank you, John.” A hand on Mycroft’s wrist, and he startled. “Mycroft? It is all right. I am here.”
Tears still slipping down his cheeks, Mycroft raised his gaze. He met Sherlock’s grey eyes, eyes full of open concern. The usual flippant disregard was gone, at least for now. Perhaps that, too, was a mask. One which Sherlock had worn for protection, but which stood between them as a barrier too.
“I am sorry, Sherlock,” Mycroft said, and was uncertain which offense or failure, precisely, he was apologizing for. Perhaps all of them. There were many. “I meant to sit vigil beside you, and to help in your care. Not…”
His brief grasp on the power of speech failed, and he sank back into silence. Speech, it seemed, was too closely associated with the masks which allowed him to function in social interactions. Without that, without his routines and rules, he currently lacked the power.
“Here, Mycroft.” Watson pressed a glass into his hand. Mycroft eyed it suspiciously, and Watson chuckled. “It’s only brandy, I promise.”
“As difficult as the entire concept is for you, you may trust Watson,” Sherlock said with a hint of his usual mocking tone. He sank back against the pillows, ashen but almost smiling. “If he says it is only brandy, then it is only brandy. Don’t be so paranoid.”
“What you call ‘paranoia’ is a wholly rational caution in the face of dangers, Sherlock,” Mycroft said automatically, a fragment of his usual mask sliding back into place. The familiarity of it soothed him, and he relaxed somewhat. “However, as you appear to be rational yourself at the moment, I shall trust you, even if I do not trust Dr. Watson.”
That remark drew a chuckle from Sherlock, which quickly turned into a round of coughing. Watson at once sat beside him, steadying his head, and then helped him take a sip of water once the coughing ceased.
As for Mycroft, he simply leaned back into the chair and sipped his brandy. He had wholly exhausted himself with worry and memories, and must sit quietly for a time. The mask of silence was the only mask he could wear at present.
That mask would give him time to collect himself, however, and to master his emotions. And once he felt capable of functioning again, he would resume helping in Sherlock’s care, just as a responsible older brother ought to do.
