âNice try but you still have nothing on the Kalosi. They live and breathe the pompous lifestyle,â Sabine laughed.
She glanced around, surveying the shops in the immediate area, âThat sounds about right. Seems like if anywhere were to specialise in specialty shops it would be here. Opelucid seems to pride itself on its rejection of the mainstream. I think thereâs a word for it around these parts. âHipsterâ?â
A physical therapistâŚÂ Sabine idly wondered whether he would take a look at Alucio or Balor. Her two mature teammates who seemed to struggle with some nasty aches and pains. Alucio simply from old age, Balor who as a former victim of yes of torturous genetic testing, continued to live with haunting pains of his former life. Even she wouldnât mind a shoulder rub every now and then, now that she didnât have a certain ponytailed ranch boy to request them of.
âI experiment at home,â Sabine answered after a hesitant blink, âI didnât even know there was an Academy around here?! I wonder if they could lend me some bench space in one of their labs. See! This is why youâre here!! Next, take me to one of these fine bakeries youâve described. Iâm starving for a sugar hit.â
âI think Iâve experienced my fair share. A lot of people from Hoenn travel a long way to experience the resorts in the summer.â More often than not, unfortunately, he would admit. Although most visitors were eagerâsome were unnecessarily rudeâto accompany the aforementioned pompous lifestyle, maybe.
Hipster was a quirky word to describe a town, but he supposed he wouldnât know any other word to do just as good a job. Both halves of the town seemed to be that way, respectively. âYou are right; pretty much a shop for what you can think up. From food to oddities, canât miss out.â
Itâs definitely an exaggeration in his head, but when he imagines experimenting, he thinks about the stereotypical test tubes; bubbling liquids in contrast to the dark roomâequipment scattered about in a âmethod to the madnessâ kind of way. Itâs an exaggeration andâitâs silly. He bites back a small smile, âAh, yeah? Opelucid Academy. I havenât visited in a while, not sure if President Drayden is still around âŚâ Hawke is a bit taken back from the sudden burst of enthusiasm, but he tries his best to hide the surprise.
âThis way, then.â Heâs about to take a step forward to lead the way before he feels a vibration at his hip; thereâs a soft sigh that escapes him when he pulls out the guilty pokeballâhis Marill forcing its way back out at the mention of the bakery.
âCanât keep put long enough, canât you?â Hawke scoops her up, continuing on his way with Sabine in tow. He turns to the trainer slightly to explain, âIt specializes in treats for your companions as well; perhaps your Trubbish would appreciate it too. Marill certainly does, at least.â
lost and found;
More often than not, Hawke spent a lot of the slower times of the year just relaxing on the beach. There was very little sun, sometimes the occasional rain, but that certainly didnât stop his pokemon from wanting to come out and play in the sand or water. He was less of a trainer and more of a caretaker, at least, that is what he liked to believe. His job rarely required going out far along the routes to run the risk of encountering trainers thirsty for battle. If he had to be honest, he hated putting his companions through that. Watching his pokemon playing with the waves at the edge of the shoreâyeah, this was far better.
Hawke had let his mind linger, getting distracted enough to lose sight of his Marill. Worriedly, he looked around, clamoring up from the sand. His Metagross, Alakazam, and Mantine all seemed content by the waterâthey had been just as unaware as he was just a second ago.
âWhereâd you wander off to, buddy?â Hopefully she hadnât gone anywhere toward the roadâHawke busted out in a sprint down the shore calling out. âMarill!â

Sabine squinted suspicious but decided to think no more of it. Moving to a new country was always an opportunity to reinvent oneself and the researcher had made a promise to herself to be less judgmental.
Or.. try.
âUnovan hospitality has beaten out the Kalosianâs by a mile already,â Sabine chuckled, âI remember when I was trying to figure out my way around Lumiose when I moved there and was greeted by a lot of women and men with Furfrous and upturned noses. Though, I do miss the cheese and Kalosian pastry. Iâm yet to try anything here that lives up to its standards.â
Sabine glanced around before wincing in pain as Little E latched onto a lock of her hair. She half-considered just chopping it all off again. Bob haircuts cut down the maintenance time. At least it wasnât like her roommate, Marina, who had hair down to her ankles.
Detaching Little E from her hair, Sabine returned the Trubbish to his ball before holding out a hand to shake. âIâm Sabine,â she introduced with a half smile, âI was living in Lilycove, Hoenn until I was contracted by a laboratory to test my theories about poison Pokemon based on my college elective paper. I donât know how long Iâll be here in Unova but still good to make acquaintances with the country, I feel.â
âWhere Iâm from, the people are surely anything but that.â Of course, not during the colder seasons. One could attempt to find a soul in Undella outside of the summer, though it would most likely yield little result. Humilau wasnât as bad, though like its companion town, people tended to avoid being anywhere near the bracing winds of the coast.
Hawke mulled on his mental map for a moment, doing his best to recreate the city from what he remembered. The areas around the PokeMart are what he knows best, given his history in buying supplies from out of town for workâ
âUnovans have fine bakeries themselves.â He lifted his chin in the air and gave a decent enough sneer, âHowâs this? Or am I not condescending enough.â A small chuckle escapes him as Sabine introduces herself; he shakes her hand once, twice for good measure.
âMy name is Hawke. Iâve lived in between Humilau City and Undella Town here in Unova for quite some time. I frequent Opelucid for supplies, theyâve got a brand I like I canât find anywhere close to where Iâm from.â When Sabine had explained her reasons for moving, he gave a slight nod of the head, intrigued by her field of study. She must have been quite intelligent, quite insightful, to be contracted based off of theoriesâHawke couldnât explain the first thing about poison aside from that it was usually bad when used in battle.
âIâm a physical therapist, for trainers and pokemon alikeâthough for the recent part of my life, itâs been used more of a recreational activity than ⌠well, what it actually is.â He doesnât want to explain further than that, far more interested in hearing about Sabineâs work.
âIs your lab somewhere in the Academy? Or around it?â

âWhereâs the language settings,â Sabine muttered, closing out of the TTA app after publishing her first post and squinted for any sign of a gear icon on the UI. The swirling pit of buyers regret stung in her stomach after spending the remainder of her pay (and some of her savings) on the brand new C-Gear.
The girl idly glanced down to see her Trubbish had vanished. The feeling in her stomach tightened as she straightened up like an alert meerkat. Little E was making his way over to a bystander a ways up the street, eyes hungrily looking at the shoes of the stranger.
Donât eat that, youâll contaminate the substances before we even experiment!!
âNo, no, no, no!â Sabine shoved the C-Gear into her messenger bag and booked it up the street to scoop up the Trubbish as it was mere inches from the man. She stood up, clutching Little E to her chest with a relieved sigh. Close call.
The Hoennese girl glanced up, pausing for a split-second, forcing back a wry smile, âSorry, never been much good at keeping my Pokemon in line,â she admitted sheepishly, casting a look down, âWouldnât want him toââ
Sabine wasnât in the habit of snooping on otherâs phone screens but she recognised her TTA post immediately. She self-consciously took half a step back, âThey said Unovanâs were punctual but.. I honestly didnât expect anyone to be answering my notice so soon.â
Hawke doesnât move a muscle when he sees the small Trubbishwaddling its way up to him, giving up any hope of remaining unseen with hisphone still in hand. When the trainer soon follows and scoops the pokemon up,he gives a slight nodâan indication that it really was no trouble or bother at allâthoughhe does wonder what its intention was coming up to him before being caught byits respective owner.
âNo harm done,â he says with a lower cadence, taking onemore glance at the Trubbish before bringing his full attention to the trainer. Before heâs able to say anything else, Hawke realizes whatâs being said and he subconsciouslypresses the device against his chest. Itâs weird to act like heâs been caughtwhen he hasnât done anything wrong, he thinks. âOh, I-â The explanation comesin jumbled bits and pieces to him and itâs difficult to form a coherentsentence without making it appear more unusual than it might seem.
â⌠Just happened to check it. Coincidence.â Hawke is stillwondering whether or not to go through with the trainerâs request. As it is, itseemed like the appropriate thing to do, especially that she knew he was awareof it by proof of his device.
âI donât live in this city, but Iâve been in and out enoughto show you around.â
If Hawke was good at anything, it was showing non-nativesjust exactly what Unova had to offer. Of course, this was simplerâjust a boutaround town and answering questions. It wasnât like dealing with a short-termtourist; more about education than entertainment, honestly.

[ OPEN RP ] Living on the cusp of Opelucidâs Downtown and Uptown continued to be an adjustment process. It was a strange feeling for Sabineâs Hoenn journey to come to a close, even if travelling to Unova for research was only temporary. If she were more honest with herself, there was a feeling of relief. Hoenn hadnât held the best memories. The opportunity to start anew was a welcome one.
* *Burrr brrbrrbrrbrr BRR BURRBRR BRR BRRAAAHHH* *
Sabine dug out her PokeNav from her pocket and held to her ear. âHello?â she began in Unovan before flipping back to a more comfortable Kalosian, âOh hey LeRoux.. No no, itâs nine in the morning here, donât worry.â
She walked into the threshold of Downtown and stopped by a reflective shop window; âHOLOGRAPHIC WATCHES - THE FUTURE IS NOWâ. The girl leaned closer to get a better look at her reflection, experimentally flicking the mascara on her eyelashes to test how it had dried.
She still had to remind herself she wasnât a cosmetic chemist anymore.
âYouâre asking the wrong person, I think youâre better of giving the ranch a call if you have questions aboutââ
An ominous image of two red eyes appeared in the shop window which caused Sabine to jump in fright, dropping her phone. She swung a glance behind her to see the culprit had been an illuminated sign from a Korean BBQ eatery directly across the street. She grasped her chest, feeling her pounding heartbeat underneath. Looking down, she closed her eyes in a silent rage to see her PokeNav had burst into a dozen unrepairable pieces.
Wincing at a nasty compression from her upper arm, Sabine sighed and released Little E. A small smile tugged as she watched the Trubbish greedily eat up the pieces of the destroyed phone before shielding her eyes from the sun to look down the street for any sign of a phone retailer.
Travelling to other towns and cities other than Undella was always a chore. The convenience of the Marine Tube trumped any other means, especially walkingânot that Hawke truly cared, though during this time of year, it was awful. He sticks to the vibrant memory of a sun-kissed Humilau City rather than the dreary dark itâs been during the winter. The winds of the sea are bracing and makes living there difficult without the tourists in Undella to provide the money he needs. With that issue on his mind, Hawke had been making his way to Opelucid for some time, having gotten a call for an in-home physical therapy session. Those were common, but the timing now couldnât be any better for him. If he had to humor the request during his busiest days of the year, it would have been a lot more trouble than it was worth.
Lost in his thoughts, Hawke felt shaking in his armsâapologetically, he looked down and kissed a sorry on top of his Marillâs head, who admonished having to leave the warm and safety of their home but is far too restless to stay dormant in a ball.
âWeâre practically here, itâs alright,â he hushed, just as much to himself than to his companion. âYou do know youâll have to get back into your ball once we get to the client, right? Canât have both you and Champ out when weâre doing our thing.â Hawkeâs words are mumbled as he rounds a cornerâMarillâs ears twitching at the sound of something shattering. Someone had dropped their phone, its remains quickly disposed of by their respective Trubbish. He pays no more mind to it than that, however, returning his attention back to the location of the clientâs home.
--
Some leg and knee exercises later, Hawke had finished his work and left the Opelucid home with cash in hand. He wasnât expecting the extra tip, but he figures if it saved him another trip outside of Humilau, the better. Champ and Marill returned and remained in their poke ballsâHawke tells them itâs for the better and would get them home faster if he ran a good length of the upcoming routes. Itâs still early in the morning, not that much time spend for the amount of time it took to get hereâhe figures he could get some food before returning.
As he ventures further into the city, he comes across the same trainer from beforeâthe one that had dropped their phoneâonly difference now being the new C-Gear, the one he recognizes from the ads littering half the windows down the shopping center strip. Hawke doesnât know what she must be doing, but he pulls out his own PokeNav out of curiosity; he opens the TTA app and wonders if his curiosity was more tuition or more coincidence. Heâs standing off to the side (out of sight, he believesâhopes--) debating whether or not to respond to the post.
