Stuart Semple (legally known as Anish Kapoor) /Culture Hustle is a grifter/con artist and you all fell for it.
Seeing Anish Kapoor's installation with Greenpeace online led me down a rabbit hole regarding Stuart Semple and his company Culture Hustle
You may know Semple for the whole vantablack debacle with Anish Kapoor which that story has had a whole lot of misinformation. People have tackled that on here
But I here to milkshake duck Semple for you with his grifting in 2025. Semple is nothing more than a man who used outrage marketing posing himself as someone for small artist to get their money all while failing to ship orders to his actual customers, dabbling in NFTs and genAI and basically scamming people on Kickstarter
Stuart Semple misinforms people about color trademarks as an attack on creative expression and in order to "liberate" said colors, YOU have to buy his products. He got sued by Calvin Klein for copyright infringement for the Easy Klein. While I am for fair use in art and entertainment, he was selling goods which is a much.
His marketing strategies are either misinforming people about stuff like trademark law or the whole vantablack in order to paint as "a wittle guy looking out for smol artists UwU" is to commit try to copyright infringement , get shed so he can cry to press and get people to buy his products but not ship them. He's tried to redo this with Mattel (Barbie) and Hershey's (Reese's)
He tried to dabble in NFTs and was caught using genAI for his failed dumbphone indiegogo and his shitty pet rock scam (his "clever idea" of parodying labubus)
repeatedly claims that CultureHustle is a non-profit when it is NOT (trading under Bigger Ltd as A PRIVATE LIMITED COMPANY via Gov.UK)!
The subreddit for his company r/culturehustle and recent Trustpilot reviews are full of unhappy customers whose orders were held up for months all while he promotes new products and gimmicks on his instagram. Five star reviews pop up on TP from accounts with 1 reviews amidst many 1-star reviews. He only ships when customers contact their banks/credit card companies for fraud
In 2023, Semple ran a kickstarter for Abode to make his own take on Adobe products yet offered NO mockup screenshots/features/solid pitch besides perpetual license. He raised $250k based on the goodwill he had from fans andd two years later, he fired two rounds of developers and all there is videos of his own prototype with it many coming the conclusion he's using AI vibe coding as he previously claimed to hire geeks to do his programming but suddenly he's coding the thing himself. the comments are filled with unhappy backers
On r/culturehustle, his former Abode developer Moira has accused him on not paying her and harassment. Semple tried to blame her but has been flamed by his backers and customers and KS and Reddit for his failure to take responsibility as a business owner.
Semple's marketing tactics to me are similar of that to Brewdog painting themselves as good guys for "anti-sponsoring" Qatar's Fifa World Cup in protest of Qatar's human rights violations yet screening World Cup matches in their pubs and selling beer in Qatar or how Alex Jones/Infowars riled up their paranoid viewers in otder to sell supplements. He twists narratives and uses people's (valid) distrust of corporations in order to SELL a solution. If he was a good guy, he could've been transparent about the pigments he uses and where he gets them. He could've used made Abode merch to fund open source projects that actually made creative tools accessible to all like Blender or Krita (linked their donation pages if you want to fund legit WORTHWHILE software instead of vaporware).
To quote Technology Connections,
"The world is complex and you should be skeptical of simple narratives"
I love him :)
Ozu my boy
Batcat yuri you will ALWAYS be famous to me!!!!! What do we think about superbat yuri as well??? Love your art sm❤️❤️❤️
aaa thank you so much!! and you know what? hell yea (๑•̀ ᴗ•́)ᕗ
This is going to sound so "oldie yells at cloud" of me but the radicalisation of the young into black and white, zero shades of grey thinking, both in the media they consume and in real life situations, is genuinely terrifying.
The world is complex. The world is grey. There is infinite nuance in everything. No amount of trying to shove it all into neatly labeled boxes is ever going to work.
it’s necessary to fight back against adult content bans obviously because it leads to queer bans, but also, you cannot forget that we must fight back against these bans because adults have the right to make and enjoy adult content. no credit card company has the right to censor what we look at. yes, this includes the “problematic kinks” and stuff you think is gross and bad. just as we deserve to be openly queer online, we deserve to enjoy adult content without fear of total censorship, and it’s absurd how few places there are to do that online nowadays
sometimes it also seems like people tend to forget that the expression of sexuality is a core part of queer identity. there is no clean division between censorship of queerness and censorship of “adult content.” there is no world in which queer expression can be truly safe online if adult content is censored. our sexual identities and experiences are literally a core part of us and there is no way to only filter out “acceptable” queer experiences and still claim to be supportive of the queer community. obscure queer fetish art has just as much a right to exist as corny gay teen movies because they are both representative of queer experiences.

Posting after months gone as if nothing happened...
On writing sexual tension
⊹ standing too close. like just barely not touching. why are their shoulders breathing on each other??
⊹ conversations that sound normal but feel like foreplay. “pass the salt” has never been so loaded.
⊹ one of them says something flirty and the other freezes for 0.2 seconds like “oh.”
⊹ eyes dropping to lips and then—back up. with effort.
⊹ holding eye contact just a little too long. like... are they gonna kiss or duel??
⊹ unintentional physical contact that lasts one second too long and now they’re both broken
⊹ a hand on the small of the back. that’s it. that’s the tweet.
⊹ tension so thick that other characters start noticing like “hey are you two okay?” (they are not)
⊹ “accidental” sleepovers. “oh no there’s only one bed.” yeah. suuuure.
⊹ biting back a smile. biting back a moan. biting anything really.
⊹ one of them walks away and the other has to physically restrain themselves from watching the hips
⊹ lots of sighing. frustrated sighs. horny sighs. “i want to kiss you but I’m emotionally unavailable” sighs.
itch is removing all of their adult games now
Oh things are fucking dire huh. There won't be any storefronts left
Oh so this is NEW news. Posted an hour ago???
Fucking hell this is bleak.
this is, like, an active process that is happening right now, games are as we speak being delisted, shadowbanned, or removed from people's library. the nsfw tag is no longer searchable; nsfw games only appear if you search for their exact title.
when the steam ban came down last week everyone said 'well, we'll lost a bunch of money, but at least there's still itch.' itch.io has been one of the go-to places for people making pornographic or even just lewd video games, comic books, and tabletop rpgs. just like every other platform, the pornographers were an important part of their early user base, on the buyer and seller side.
this is absolutely disastrous, and not just "oh because people can't buy porn anymore" like this is a continued assertion that laws don't actually matter in terms of what you're allowed to buy and what you're allowed to sell; forms of art and individual artists can be declared permissible or impermissible with a broad brush or at a very granular level by the arbitrary, conservative whims of the people who own payment processors. who do you want deciding what you can buy? who do you want telling you whether your game with scantily clad tieflings, your comic with a li'l too much man ass, your ttrpg about young queer people, is sexual in nature? for me the answer is 'literally no one,' but even if you accept that there ought to be laws about this sort of thing, surely you want it to be, like, legislators making the decision, and not 'some random executives, whose motives are unclear, and who are accountable to nobody,' right? right???
it's not going to stop here, mark my words. stand with the sex workers and the pornographers or the next thing VISA and Mastercard are gonna decide you can't buy is fucking pup masks and dildos and pride flags
