so sorry this took so damn long.
“Good morning...” Aubrey looked up at Emme the next morning as she walked slowly into the kitchen at about 9 in the morning.
“I thought I would be up before you....” she yawned sitting in front of him in the middle of the kitchen.
“I couldn't sleep. I'm sure I'll fall asleep sometime soon.” He said holding out a piece of the breakfast he was making for her.
“Mmmmm.” she tasted the food. “It would be better with spam.” she joked.
“When you find spam in Canada then we can have it.” he smiled at her.
“But serious, it's good. I want it all.” she replied. “You need to be a chef.”
“Well, maybe one day.” he said making a plate of food handing it to her sitting in front of her.
“Thank you.” she smiled taking a bite of the food. “But seriously.”
“So what are we doing today, Many?” he asked her.
“Nothing.” she answered with her mouth full. “I mean...absolutely nothing.”
“That sounds good.” he answered her watching her pick at her food a little.
“Why are you picking at your food?” he asked her.
Shit. Don't even open that can of worms. He thought to himself. “Okay.” he answered her dropping the subject.
“But you know what we can do?” she asked reaching for her phone.
“Look over all this fancy wedding stuff I've found...” she said handing the phone to him.
“Hmm...” he thought out loud.
“Fine. We can just lay around and play video games.” she said standing up. “I'm going to go take a shower.”
“Yeah. Okay.” he answered going to clean up breakfast. Ugh. He thought to himself going over to the TV to turn it on. “The video games actually sound good. “ he said to himself hearing his phone start to ring.
Emme looked into the mirror in the bathroom wiping her long brown hair out of her face touching her cheeks. I'm getting married. I have someone who loves me. I have a family that loves me. I have friends and a job...I have everything. She reached down taking her handful of pills. She swallowed the pills with a small glass of water. She stretched out her arms taking off the t-shirt she was sleeping in turning on the hot water to take a shower. “Ouch.” she groaned pulling her ribs. “I'm fine.” she gave herself a pep talk getting into the shower. She took a long shower trying to get herself to calm down. I'm fine. She said to herself. I'm fine. I'm fine. I can do this. She talked herself through her mini panic attack getting dressed slowly walking downstairs to see him sitting on the couch with several of his friends playing the video games she had suggested.
“Hey Em.” he said over the controller.
“I'm going to go to the other room.” she told him with a sigh.
“I'm glad you're okay...” one of his friends said over the video game.
“Yeah me too.” she said a bit dejected by his reaction to her. She reached for the remote turning on the tv. She switched to a movie selecting a horrible comedy that she would watch with her brother and sister when she was younger. She stretched out on the couch with her phone texting her sister complaining about how her day was unfolding. Toward the middle of the day she got up to get something to eat seeing his group of friends still sitting on the couch yelling and screaming at the tv.
“Em? “ she heard Aubrey ask for her.
“What?” she answered turning to hm to see him giving her a sympathetic smile. He stood up walking over to her leaning down to look into her eyes.
“Hi.” he smiled leaning down to kiss her lightly.
“Hi.” she whispered back.
“I'm being a jerk. I'll get everyone home and we can watch the Sandlot...okay?” he whispered back feeling her nod her head against his chest. “I'll be right back, stay here. Make me something sweet.” he said glancing at the refrigerator that had some ice cream in it. About thirty minutes later he walked into the kitchen seeing her sitting at the kitchen table with her phone. “Hey sexy.” he smiled sitting across from her. “Let's see those wedding things...”
“So...” she said moving her chair over to him with her phone.
“This would be so much more comfortable in bed.” he told her. “Plus it's so cold...we'd warm up...”
“Are you using me to go take a nap?” she laughed at him struggling to get up.
“No....” he said with a bit of hesitation. “No. Really. Let's go upstairs and you tell me everything you want...”
“Really....” she said letting him touch her gently leading her to the bedroom. “I just want....” she said reaching for an ipad as they neared the bed. She sat down Indian style swiping through a few windows handing him a picture of a beach at sunrise.
“That's so early...” he responded.
“But then we get to celebrate all day and all night...” she said. “I love the sunrise. Running in the morning...swimming in the morning....riding in the morning..driving in the morning. It's so different than at night....” she said. “Sunset is so dark. It's like the start of a new day....a new life..a new everything...”
“Hmmm.” he thought looking at the picture again. “I like your perspective.” he said handing it back to her. “But I don't know if I can commit to getting married at like 6 in the morning...”
“It's more like 5:30....” she answered with a smile. “Pleassseeee.” she pleaded. “Just think...you get the whole wedding day...not just like the night...but the whole day....”
“Tell me what else....” he said changing the subject.
“And then breakfast would be a huge Hawaiian breakfast and whatever you want because I know you do it big....” she told him. “And then we change and do the beach all day and night. And have like a chill day with the boats and surfing and paddle boards...and you can have your big fancy dinner. With everyone....and they can come and go, stay as long as they want...and then like close to the end of the night we go off and do our married thing...”
“Hmmm.” he thought. “ I think you've already decided....”
“Ehhh....” she shrugged. “Maybe.”
“God...you're the worst...” he said burying his head into her neck kissing her. “Whatever you want, Many.”
She laughed at the way he was kissing her as his hands moved to her side making her laugh even harder as he gently led her to lay on the bed. He moved his lips to her cheek and then to her lips feeling her body underneath him. It was so familiar with her soft skin and thick hair tangled in his fingers. Her lips tasted like strawberries and she smelled like coconut. He felt her small body relax underneath him as she kissed him back, her tongue tangled with his. His hands moved down to her cheek feeling tears coming down her cheek. “Emme....” he stopped looking down at her moving away from her watching her cringe in pain as she started to sit up.
“I didn't want to make you mad...it was perfect....” she responded. “I didn't want to ruin it...it was perfect...”
“Emanuelle...” he drew out her name in the same way that always made her melt. “No...”
“This wouldn't be this way if I hadn't had been so stupid....” she told him looking into his eyes. He frowned at her trying to make her feel better. He reached for her bruised and battered hand. “No matter what, Many....it will be okay.”
“Yeah. I hope so.” she answered wiping away her tears.
“But you know what I Can do that won't hurt you?” he asked her.
“What?” she asked a bit confused.
“Take a nap with you.” he responded laying his head on her shoulder. “I'll even let you use me as a pillow.”
“Yeah. That works.” she said reaching over for a pillow. “I am kind of tired.”
“Yeah. That's about what I thought.” he answered her kissing her head.
“How long are you going to be here until you have stuff?” she asked him not giving him the chance to answer. “Nevermind. I forgot about Coachella.”
“Yeah. That. And this summer and a couple other things. But....” he tried to cover his bases making sure that he didn't cause her an anxiety. “I'll be here....I don't want you to go home, Em...”
“No, that wasn't what I was thinking. That's the last place I need to be.” she answered.
“But you could just come with....” he suggested.
“Nope. Never going to happen.” she laughed. “My mom never did it, I'm never going to do it.”
“Come to Coachella, though?” he asked.
“Yeah. Okay.” he said running his fingers along her waist. “I don't ever want to wake up next to anyone but you, Many.”
“God, stop kissing ass, Aubs.” she giggled twisting her body to kiss him. “I'm really not that tired....” she said running her fingers along his shirt getting up from the bed. “But I know you are.” she leaned down kissing his forehead. “You need to catch up on your sleep, boo. “
“Just lay with me then....” he said to her reaching for her hand feeling her fall into the bed with him.
“You win.” she laughed laying back where she was before. “Tell me about your trip...”
“So....” he started talking for almost the rest of the afternoon with his arms wrapped around her and her body laying perfectly on him.
